Trestleboard Messages for March

From the East

     Brethren,
I would like to share with you some of our history at Burbank Lodge.
On July 15, 1908, a number of Brethren recognized by each other as Master Masons assembled at the I.O.F. Hall in Burbank, California for the purpose of taking the necessary measures for establishment of a Lodge of Free and Accepted Masons in Burbank: Brother Willard A. Coon acting as temporary chairman.
The following Brothers were nominated as officers for recommendation to the Grand Master: Brother Willard A. Coon for Master, Brother Edward Fisher for Senior Warden, and Brother Charles B. Fisher for Junior Warden.
This newly founded organization was to be named "Burbank Lodge." The necessary committees were appointed to find a suitable meeting place, prepare a petition to the Grand Master for dispensation, secure the necessary working tools, aprons, lodge furnishings, etc., and to raise the necessary funds for expenses.

Second Preliminary Meeting
The second preliminary meeting was held in the Burbank State Bank Building on February 25, 1909, at which time the following Brothers having secured the necessary demits from their respective Lodges, signed the petition for a dispensation.
Willard A. Coon, Edward A. Fisher, Charles B. Fisher, Ralph O. Church, Walter A. Lovering, George H. Wood, Addison Sence, Wilbur Townsend, George M. Olin, Charles W. Catlin, John C. Conway, James D. Hale, Edward P. Jennings, Warren Forbes, Eugene W. Cook, George E. Huse, Charles E, Salisbuy, Henry A. Church, Barrillia V. Greenwood, Henry W. Rouscup, Charles P. Nesselroad and Fredrick H. Fainot. Lodges from eleven states were represented in this group.
Brother Charles B. Fisher and R. O. Church were appointed to present the petition for dispensation and accompanying demits to the Unity Lodge Number 368 at Glendale, California and ask that they recommend to the Most Worshipful Oscar Lawler, Grand Master of Masons in California, that he issue a dispensation for establishment of Burbank Lodge. Worshipful Brother Dan Campbell, Master of Unity Lodge made the necessary recommendation to the Most Worshipful Grand Master.
The committee appointed to secure a meeting place reported that they had aranged with Brother George H. Wood to build a second story over the store building he was erecting on San Fernando Road in Burbank, and that the rooms were now ready for occupancy at a rental of $200.00 per year.

Third Preliminary Meeting
On June 9, 1909 the third preliminary meeting was held in the new lodge rooms in the wood building; the chairman reporting that the officers had passed the examination given them by Worshipful John H. Bean, Inspector of the 53rd Masonic District, and that they now had Certificates of Qualifications.

More history to follow next month.

This month of March has been proclaimed Masonic Youth Month by the Most Worshipful David C. Decker, Grand Master of Masons for California. Please do your best to recognize our youth, for they are we of tomorrow.
March 26th we will join with Magnolia Park Lodge No. 618 for Public Schools Night. Most Worshipful Decker, has proclaimed April as Public Schools Month, but unfortunately the Burbank Schools cannot accommodate us during that month, we therefore have moved our time up to March 26. Please come to this event and show your support for our schools as well as our Youth.

Fraternally, Bill

From the West

     Brethren
As I have already expressed in my last article, for the upcoming year my responsibility will be to increase the strength of the lodge. This means, to get the community more involved in our programs and get our less-involved members to attend more lodge events.
One of the things that I will be planning is the Child ID program. This is a very unique program that was started by our Grand Lodge few years ago. The program is geared toward educating the families in our community on the issue of child safety. More specifically, the lodge will assist each parent in creation and storage of vital information necessary for correctly identifying the child.
Many lodges throughout California have already been involved in the Child ID program and report very successful results.
During next few months, I will be contacting some local organizations to solicit for their support. In addition, we will attempt to bring a Grand Lodge representative to our meeting where the members will be able to ask questions about the specifics of the program.
I'm looking for your advise and support in making this program successful.

     Fraternally, Edward

From the South

      Hello Everyone!
This month we will be celebrating Public Schools here in Burbank. Join us March 26th as we celebrate our Public Schools in a joint effort with Magnolia Park. Any questions regarding this upcoming evening should be directed to our Sr. Deacon,
Jason Cunningham.
Where did you all go? I am talking about all you entered apprentice and fellowcraft masons. We have quite a few of you floating around out there, stuck between degrees. Burbank Lodge is blessed to have many officers and brethren skilled in our ancient craft who are willing to work with you on your proficiencies. You will never see or learn all that masonry has to offer until you reach the sublime degree of Master Mason. This should be every mason's goal! When you are ready to get started, give the lodge secretary or myself a call.
Any of you Master Masons with some free time on your hands, we can always use some help. You are always welcome to attend our officer's practices at the lodge on Thursday nights. Your officers get together every Thursday to practice and perfect our ancient ritual (unless there is a special event planned), and we encourage you to come and help out. Come on, let's all get involved!
Just a reminder about stated meetings, social hour will begin @ 7pm, prior to the meeting @ 8pm. There will be snacks, punch, and coffee prior to every Stated Meeting. According to Worshipful Jake Libby, "The coffee isn't too bad". I promise to have real creamer from now on!
Please call in your reservations, (818 848-3750) or CLICK HERE to e-mail your reservation to the Secretary as soon as possible.

     Fraternally, Gregg
