Trestleboard Messages for April

From the East

Brethren:
This being the month of April, I would like to make a correction to our calendar for April 28th, it states we are having a Hiram Award presentation for Worshipful Jacob Libby. Unfortunately this date cannot be accomadated for this event, we therefore have rescheduled to a later date to be announced later. I am sorry for any inconvenience this may have caused.
Our new lodge building was progressing along rapidly and it looked as though we would be moving in soon, but, do to the rain and changes we have made over the last few months, our move-in schedule has been modified. Now it looks as though it might be the first week in June before we are in our new facility.
We will be presenting 25 year pins at our dinner before the Stated Meeting on April 5th for those members deserving.
April has been declared Public Schools Month by Most Worshipful David C. Decker, Grand Master of Mason for California. Unfortuately the Burbank Schools could not accomadate us during this month, we therefore held our Public Schools Program last month on the 26th. We are sorry if you did not receive this information in time for our program. Please visit your schools and see how the children are being educated. You will be astounded. These children, I believe are receiving the best education teachers can give them. I only wish my grandchildren could attend Burbank schools.
April 28th is Burbank on Parade Day. Come join us for this event. We will be marching down Olive Avenue from Keystone to Olive Recreation. Lineup time is 8:30 AM, following the parade we will have a picnic at Olive Recreation. Everybody is welcome. Come one come all.

To continue with our history:

First meeting under dispensation

The Grand Master, having been pleased to grant the request of the petitioners, the first meeting under dispensation was held on Thursday, July 1, 1909, at which time a uniform code of by-laws was adopted and regular meetings set on the first Thursday of each month.
The committee on furnishings reported that they had purchased the necessary chairs, desks, etc., Also, that the necessary piping and fixtures had been installed in the new lodge rooms so the gasoline could be used for lighting purposes.
The first petitions for the degrees in the new lodge were received from the following: Mr. Judge Shelton, Mr. Elmer H. Thompson, Mr. Harry C. Dunning, Mr. Clayton Ogier and Mr. William P. Craig.
The last meeting of Burbank Lodge under dispensation was held September 2, 1909; fourteen new members having been admitted either by affiliation or initiation.
First meeting under charter

On October 22, 1909, the Grand Lodge of California was opened in Burbank Masonic Hall for the purpose of Constituting Burbank Lodge and installing its officers. The Grand Master being unable to be present in person had authorized the Right Worshipful Deputy Grand Master Dana R. Weller to act as his proxy. The acting Grand Master appointed the following Brothers to assist him in opening Grand Lodge:

At the Stated Meeting held October 10, 1910, the Worshipful Master was appointed as a delegate to Grand Lodge and the sum of $30.00 was appropriated to pay his expenses.
At the stated meeting held March 5, 1914, Brother C. E. Davidson presented to the lodge a tin tube to hold the charter. This tube is in use in Burbank Lodge at the present time. During the year of 1914, seventy-eight chairs were purchased by the lodge from the Independent Order of Forresters at twelve and one-half cents each. These chairs served the lodge until January 1931, a period of some sixteen years.

To be continued next month.

From the West

Brethren

With a constant focus on reintroducing Masonry into our community, we are working on various events. Some events focus on bringing our less involved members back to the lodge and others bring community attention to Masonic family and its value system.
One of the upcoming events in August will be a trip to Catalina. I’m currently looking for a group of 20 or more to join us on a one day visit of the island on Saturday, August 18, 2001. The reservations and deposits must be made prior to May 30, 2001. This will be family outing for most of us and an opportunity to get to know each other in a setting outside the lodge. As we get closer to the date of departure, we will give you specific information on places to visit and restaurants to eat. For now, please see our ad for details on prices and boat schedules.
Upcoming Constitution Night in fall of 2001 will involve our local school. The program has not been formalized, so Işm looking for your ideas and help in making this event a successful event.
Fraternally, Edward

From the South

Hello Brethren!
We are about two and a half months into the year, and it is beginning to shape up very nicely. We have many exciting events coming up in the next few months. Keep your eyes peeled for an upcoming degree trip, a day at Catalina Island, and of course our Cornerstone Event. As we move closer to the completion of the new building, we have a lot to look forward to.
The April Stated Meeting on the 5th will kick off at 6:30 PM with dinner. Steak, potato, vegetable, and salad all for just $7. Following dinner will be our Stated Meeting @ 8 PM.
Pencil in the evening of April 19th for a possible First Degree. As usual, refreshments and fellowship will follow the degree. Make sure you stop by to meet our new brother.
Just a reminder Brethren. Unless we are having a full dinner prior to a Stated Meeting, social hour will begin @ 7pm. We encourage all of you to come and join in the friendship and conversation prior to the Stated Meeting. Coffee, punch, peanuts, chips and hot snacks are always served beginning @ 7:00 PM. Of course, they will only remain hot for so long!
Remember that all Entered Apprentice, Fellowcraft, and Master Masons are welcome to join us during social hour. Come hang out and get to know your Brethren.
