Trestleboard Messages for May, 2001

From the East

Brethren:
As we move into the month of May, many changes have come about with our Lodge. We now have no kitchen to use, as our dishwasher and other items have been removed and taken to our new site.
Newly reconditioned officers’ chairs now give the lodge a truly improved look. They have a blue and brown tint in the fabric with natural oak finish. It’s amazing what transpired from our old chairs. We tried to find chairs for 12½¢ each, but settled for having ours reconditioned for $500 each.
This month will be our last full month in our present location. We are scheduled to move sometime the middle of June. Please find time and come visit your old lodge here on Olive Avenue before time runs out. Give us your suggestions on the memorabilia you would like to have placed at our new location.
Our new Lodge is progessing along quite rapaidly now the weather is cooperating. Those of you who have not taken the opportunity to see your new Lodge building should come and see for yourselves what a magnificent Lodge we will have.
The Lodge room will have new theater seating with blue fabric as well as blue/gray carpet and granite mosaic flooring with a tesselated border. The mosaic floor will consist of black and white squares measuring 18" each totaling 20' x 30'. Also included in the room is a dome like the original one at our present site, only this will not have the cross beams and will be painted like the heavens above. The doors into the room will be of oak finish and stand 8' high by 6' wide. This is to accomadate two abreast for march in.
The new building is a must see to appreciate. We also have plenty of parking available.
The Trout Fry has been postponed until the night of our Stated Meeting for October. Also the Hiram Award celebration for Worshipful Jacob Libby will be held on October 27th.

To continue with our history:

At the Stated Meeting held March 6, 1919 a request was granted to organize and maintain a Chapter of the Order of Eastern Star in Burbank, and permission was given for this organization to use the hall for a monthly fee of $6.00.
As the lease on the lodge rooms would expire during the year, a committee was appointed to secure a meeting place. After investigating a number of locations, it was decided to re-lease the present Lodge rooms from Brothr Thomas Story for a period of three years at a monthly fee of $35.00.

To be continued.

Fraternally, Bill

His family moved to Burbank, California in 1918. In 1927, he went to work directly
after graduating from Burbank High School at Lockheed Aircraft as a machinist. He later
worked for Mitchell Camera and Technicolor in Hollywood, California. In 1937, he co-
founded Adel Precision Products Corp., subcontracting for the aircraft industry.
He founded several other small companies and remained self-employed throughout
his professional career as a machinist.
He was married to Theodora (Teddy) Buckles (1929) until her death in 1991. They
had three children: Loretta, Valerie and Jerry. Teddy was a member of the Eastern Star.
Loretta was a member of Jobs' Daughters and presently resides in Pollack Pines,
California. Valerie became a teacher and presently resides in Torrance, California.
Jerry passed away in 1958. At his death in Torrance, California, Brother Adler was 91

From the West

Brethren

We are planning many interesting events that focus on the inner and outer strengths of our Lodge. In all cases we are looking for your participation and involvement. No event can be strong without membership support.
I want to update everyone on our Child ID program. We had Grand Lodge Committee members available for discussion and questions during our April Stated Meeting. To get things going, Burbank Lodge will join with Magnolia Park Lodge. We will have a booth available during the Burbank on Parade and during the Arts & Crafts Fair throughout the day of April 28, 2001. I'm looking for volunteers to help in the booth.
We are activly planning our Catalina Trip. At the moment we are planning to spend a day on the island and enjoy the scenery and food. Please call me with your reservations or questions.
I want to keep everyone aware of our upcoming Constitution Night. The program is scheduled to be in September, 2001. It is in it's early planning stages, but it will be a very unique and interesting event. Plan to attend and be part of the evening that celebrates our U.S. Constitution.

Fraternally, Edward

From the South

Hello Brethren!
The Month of May will again be an exciting one!
The May 3rd stated meeting will mark the official visit of our Inspector Harold Hand, P.M. The Burbank Glendale Shrine Club is also scheduled to make their annual visitation.
As you may or may not know, the Trout Fry Dinner has been postponed. We hope to be able to re-schedule the event for September of this year. As usual, there will still be refreshments prior to the stated meeting at 7 PM.
Mark your calendar folks! Job's Daughters Bethel 97 Installation is May 19th. It will be a wonderful evening for all, beginning at 3 PM. Refreshments will follow the installation.
On May 24th we will be having a 2nd degree at 7:30 PM. Refreshments will follow the degree.
“Thank you” to Worshipful Marlan Proctor for allowing a small group of Burbank 406 officers to stay at his Sonora cabin up north. Worshipfuls Proctor, Cunningham and Carter along with Brothers Avetisian, Cunningham and myself all made the overnight trip. While there, we visited Keystone Lodge in nearby Milton California. Keystone Lodge meets in a 130-year-old building on a country road, smack in the middle of cow grazing country. Our Brethren from Keystone Lodge have promised to try and make the trip down for our cornerstone event in July. We hope to see them then!
Until next month, that is all from the South!
