Trestleboard Messages for July and August 2002

From the East

Brethren:
July is the time to reflect the commitments made for the year.
The Master gets the opportunity to change his leadership philosophy, reevaluate his goals, readjust the programs planned and most importantly, assess the depth our membership.
Our focus on the community exposure and support of youth groups has been steadily increasing. The programs geared to improving our involvement in both areas have important long-term effects for the Lodge and Masonry in general.
The events focusing on Child ID and Burbank Parade offered some interesting results. From a genuine conversation on Masonic ancestry to questions about the youth programs, from misinformation on Freemasonry to praises on the work we do for the community, the reactions have been mixed. Key to our Lodge is that the Burbank community is asking questions.
We have seen higher attendance to our youth programs. The work done by our Youth Group Leaders and the parents involved offers children a unique opportunity in organizational activities, creates structure in their life, improves their public speaking skills and establishes important Masonic value system. These programs are vitally important to the Lodge, the membership and the society at large.
Burbank Lodge is going through changes. A continuous and clear focus on our goals and periodic reevaluation of activities planned will insure that we will reach the destination sought.

Fraternally, Edward

From the West

Hello Brethren!:
July begins with a change. The Stated Meeting will be held on July 11th instead of July 4th in order that we may all celebrate Independence Day.
July 25th is Officer's School of Instruction at Burbank 406. School begins at 7:30 PM and all Master Masons are invited to attend.
This month is our Degree Trip to San Diego; get your reservations in ASAP. We will head to San Diego on the 26th, and will return home on the 28th.
I am going to be a little short this month and next as we move into our dark month in August. I wish a safe journey to all of our brethren who may be doing any traveling this summer on vacation.
Fraternally, Greg

From the South

Brethren:
Wow, July is already here! We will have a few things going on this month including our degree drip down to San Diego. The trip, just as a reminder, is schedule for July 26th-28th. Please contact the lodge for further information regarding the travel arrangements. This should be a great event and I am sure you won't want to miss it.
There is a tentative 50-year pin dinner scheduled for July 18th at the Lodge. Everyone is invited to come out and show appreciation for one of our longstanding brothers. As this is a tentative event, please contact the lodge for reservations and the time of the celebration.
Just as a reminder, the first stated meeting for July is on the 11th and not the 4th.
Don't forget the August Stated Meeting is Thursday, August First and will feature sealing of the Time Capsule.
The balance of the August will be dark.
Have a great summer with all of your vacation plans. See you in September.
Fraternally, Jason

From the Secretary's Desk

Brethren,
Have you considered a Life Membership?
You may purchase a lifetime contract with your lodge and never again pay dues to Burbank Lodge. Several years ago Grand Lodge revised the By-Laws for Masons to pay a graduated fee for a Life Membership.
To be eligible to become a Life Member your dues must be current. The Lodge annual dues are currently $48.00 per year. If you desire a Life Membership, contact the Secretary who will calculate your life membership fee.
The Lodge will issue a Certificate of Life Membership upon the payment of the appropriate sum from the schedule by any current member, thereby forever exempting a member from payment of dues in the future. When the dues are increased by a vote of the members of the Lodge, you are assured that you will not have to pay any dues increase.
All paid Life Memberships are deposited in a reputable bank or invested accordance with the provisions of the California Masonic Code and only the income thereof shall be used by the Lodge, the original amounts forever kept and maintained in a Life Membership Fund.
Contact the Secretary if you have any questions regarding a Life Membership with Burbank Lodge.
Do you know any Brother who is missing, ill or not feeling good contact and leave their name and phone number with the Secretary. This information will be given to the Master and Chaplain.

Fraternally,

Norm Furman, Secretary
E:mail Secretary

A short note from the webmaster

Brethren,
If anyone noticed the Past Master’s listing in the June Trestleboard You would find that it shows Worshipful Harold Lloyd as deceased. I called Brother Harold on Sunday, July 7 and found that the listing is premature.
Both Harold and Dorothy are still living in the High Desert where they have been for around 20 years. They both have serious health problems but we had a very nice conversation and they seem to have a positive outlook on life.
If anyone would like to call them, send me an e;mail and I will give you their phone number. I am sure they would enjoy hearing from any of their old friends.

Fraternally,

Art Seddon
