Trestleboard Messages for September 2002

From the East

Brethren:
August offers us an opportunity to take a break from activities and plan the rest of the year.
We have completed the first part of the year with an event that our lodge members have enjoyed for many years our annual degree trip. The San Diego sunshine, the hospitality of Wor. David Heafner and his Point Loma Lodge No. 620, the jovial environment created by the visiting members, their ladies and guests resulted in a memorable getaway for all of us.
In the upcoming future, we have planned a diversity of events for our members.
In September, we will have an opportunity to celebrate the birthday of the U.S. Constitution. We will gather for an evening of dinner and discourse on subjects related to the Constitution. In addition, we will have an opportunity to remember the lives lost during the September 11, 2001 attack on our freedom. This event will be open to the entire public.
In October, we will have our annual Past Masters Degree Dinner. This event has been a tradition at our Lodge and will be organized by one of our Past Masters, Bill Cunningham. All Master Masons are invited to enjoy a night of culinary delight and degree work by our Past Masters.
We are also planning Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners. The details will be forthcoming in the future trestleboards. Please keep in mind that events are being organized for your enjoyment, and we look forward to seeing you at the Lodge.

Fraternally, Edward

From the West

Hello Brethren!:
      We are rolling in September!
This month is Constitution Observance month. We are in the process of planning an event on the 12th honoring America and the Constitution. We plan on having a few Speakers, a meet and greet and food.
We have two First Degree's scheduled for the 19th. This will be the first time Brother Tim Halm has sat in the East, so come on out and give him and our candidates your support.
On the 26th, we will have the opportunity to confer the Second Degree of Masonry on Entered Apprentice Jeff Lindstrom. Remember, Degree's begin at 7:30 PM with social half hour starting at 7 PM.
Fraternally, Greg

From the South

Brethren:
Well, its time to get back to business. The month of September brings a few events to the Lodge and we do hope to see all of you in attendance. This month is not only a special for the Lodge, but also for our country. September llth has touched every one of us in many different ways, so do your best to show strength in a time like this. Our country has come very far in the past year and I can only believe that we, as a whole, will move on to be even stronger.
As for the events in the lodge this month, we are having the annual Constitution Observance Night on the llth. Please come out and celebrate this terrific evening at the lodge. I know last year we had some important speakers from the community and I am sure this is something you will not want to miss this year. On Thursday the 19th, we will be having a First degree. Brother Tim Halm, our Senior Deacon, is planning on making his first appearance in the East and I am sure he would appreciate everyone's support, so do try and make it. Thursday the 26th we will be having a Second Degree.
Fraternally, Jason

WHEN IS A MAN A MASON?

When he can look out over the rivers, the hills, and the far horizon with a profound sense of his own littleness in the vast scheme of things, and yet have faith, hope, courage - which is the root of every virtue.
When he knows that down in his heart every man is as noble, as vile, as divine, as diabolic and as lonely as himself and seeks to know, to forgive and to love his fellow man. When he knows how to sympathize with men in their sorrows. Yea, even in their sins - knowing that each man fights a hard fight against many odds. When he has learned how to make friends and to keep them and above all how to keep friends with himself.
When he loves flowers, can hunt the birds and feels the thrill of an old forgotten joy when he hears the laugh of a little child. When he can be happy and high-minded amid the meaner drudgeries of life.
When star-crowned trees and the glint of sunlight on flowing waters, subdue him like the thought of one much loved and long dead.
When no voice of distress reached his ears in vain and no hand seeks his aid without response.
When he finds good in every faith that helps any man to lay hold of divine things and see majestic meanings in life, whatever the name of that faith may me.
When he can look into a wayside puddle and see something beyond mud, and into the face of the most forlorn fellow mortal and see something beyond sin.
When he knows how to pray, how to love and how to hope.
When he has kept faith with himself, with his fellow man, with his GOD; in his hand a sword for evil, in his heart a bit of song - glad to live but not afraid to die.
Such a man has found the only real secret of Masonry, and the one it is trying to give to all the entire world.

For the Ladies, from the First Lady of 406

From Elizabeth Avetisian:
Ladies, I hope you had an incredible summer and are ready to start the fall season with renewed energy. It's hard to believe we are entering the last quarter of this fast moving year. September also marks the first anniversary of the tragic 9/11 attacks. We all had our strongest patriotic feelings since last September but this month the feeling is more intense. Ladies' event planned for September has a patriotic theme. Judy Bames has organized a special craft project for the Ladies. We will be making wreaths decorated with patriotic symbols to hang on our doors this month. Please join us for a fun evening and make something with our Ladies that you can proudly display at your house. The evening is on Thursday, September 5th. Social hour 7:00 to 8:00 PM, crafts starting at 8:00 PM. Please RSVP me if you plan to attend.

Sincerely,
Elizabeth
