Trestleboard Messages for January 2003

From the East

Brethren:
This is my last article from the East as the Master of Burbank 406. We, the officers of Burbank 406, have spent the last year establishing clear goals, putting a plan together and promoting a behavior focused on achieving these goals. I think we’ve met most of our goals and had a successful year together.
I want to thank all the Officers, Past Masters and Brethren for helping me and guiding me through my year. With your assistance we were able to improve our relationship with youth organizations. We have seen moderate increase in lodge attendance, in membership and increase in our involvement in community events and activities. This is only the beginning of future success if we focus on the elements that brought us here.
Year 2003 is upon us, and I want to congratulate and wish all the officers a successful year. Greg is ready to take over the roll of the Master of the Lodge. His organizational skills, ritual proficiency, youthful energy and selfless commitment have matured to offer a recipe for a successful year. Greg, Jason and Tim will form a good leadership platform for the upcoming officers. Ken’s addition this year will insure continuity in the line and, most importantly, will add to the Lodge ritual proficiency. Mark Steiger and Mark Canterbury’s commitment to the lodge activities has been a blessing for 2002. And finally, John’s youthful energy and predisposition to quality ritual work shows a bright future for the officer line. The camaraderie, respect and congeniality that I observed this year will transfer into 2003 and become the basis for a successful New Year.
My last thought of my term is in a form of an advice to the Master Elect and all concerned. We have a young lodge and our new membership fits in the age group of 20-40 years. We have officers and members that are trying to balance work, family and lodge activities in our current society. Based on my own experience this year, only a good balance between the three offers a happy coexistence.
We all care for the future success of the Lodge. As members, advising our young officers how to do it right is not enough to insure that success. Waiting to be asked to help is not enough either. We must be more proactive, not reactive, if we want to survive and succeed as a Lodge. Do not wait until you are asked to help, but offer your sincere help.

Fraternally, Edward

From the West

Brethren!
This past year has been full of fun and fellowship. It has been a pleasure to serve the Brethren and Worshipful Edward Avetisian as Senior Warden.
Worshipful Avetisian’s dedication to our Lodge and Craft are without question. I believe that his work this last year has laid the foundation for future years of success for Burbank Lodge. He has been very instrumental this past year in helping me to prepare for my year as Master of this Lodge and I thank him for his patience and guidance.
I am very excited about Burbank Lodge this year. January and February are very busy; therefore there will be no time for a break. Installation will be on the 18th at 5:00 PM with dinner following. On the 23rd of this month we will have two first degrees. We will be led that evening by Brother Ken Barnes as he sits in the East for the first time. The following week, January 30th, will be much the same as we confer the First Degree of Masonry on one new Brother. Another first timer, this time Brother Marc Canterbury will sit in the East.
      February is for our ladies!
Sweetheart’s night will be on the 13th with dinner being served at 6:30 PM. Dinner will cost $7 for the men, while the ladies will eat for free. Social half hour will begin at 6:00 PM. This evening is open to everyone, whether a Mason or not.
Beginning with February 7th, every Friday will be known as Fellowship Friday. The lodge dining room will be open from 7:00 AM to 10:00 AM for coffee, juice and donuts (or doughnuts, as you prefer). Again, all are welcome and encouraged to attend. In order to offset the cost of this weekly event, we will put out a jar for you to pitch a couple of quarters into. I feel strongly about bringing this event back to the lodge, and hope that it will allow those who are not able to attend lodge regularly to get back into the swing of things.
Looking to the future, here are a few highlights for the upcoming year. The Stated Meetings for the months of: March, May-Trout Fry, July, September and November will be preceded by dinner. Ladies and friends will be welcome. A degree trip to Las Vegas is in the planning stages for the month of May (very early stages).

Fraternally, Greg

A New Inspector for the 326th!

The 326th Masonic District has a new Inspector. Donald L. Griffiths, P.M. has replaced Harold Hand, P.M. as of January 15st 2003. This is Worshipful Griffiths’ second time around as an Inspector, and we are happy to have him. In addition, our sincerest thanks go out to Worshipful Harold Hand for his many years of dedication to our Lodges. The officers of Burbank Lodge have become especially fond of working with him and he will be missed.

From the South

Brethren:
I would first like to thank all of you for the support throughout my year as Junior Warden; it was a fun yet challenging year. Secondly, I would like to congratulate Brother Mark Canterbury on being recognized as the recipient of the annual C. Mark Steiger Award for outstanding service in the kitchen. Thanks so much Mark, this year would not have been possible without you. Lastly, I would like to thank the Brethren for electing me to carry on my duties as Senior Warden in the coming year. This year will bring about its own challenges and I look forward to every minute of it.
The month of January is a busy month at the Lodge. We will begin the New Year with our Stated Meeting on the first Thursday as usual.
On the 9th we have a First Degree scheduled that will begin promptly at 7:30 PM, please come out to support the lodge.
Installation will be held on Saturday the 18th and will begin at 5:00 PM with dinner to follow. I would like to personally congratulate all the officers on their new duties in the Lodge. This is a particularly special year for the Lodge as we begin a new era of leadership under the guidance of one of our youngest Masters, Greg Bragg. Congratulations Greg, I know you will be one of the memorable Masters of Burbank 406!
The Lodge will also have a First Degree on the 23rd and 30th of the month; both degrees will start at 7:30 PM. Please contact the Lodge to verify times and dates as they sometimes fluctuate.

Fraternally, Jason

From the Secretary's Desk

Brethren,
Beginning in January 2003, the Secretary would like to have the Brethren report any additions, changes or happening in your lives. This column will report changes in your address, a new home maybe, weddings, (divorce) new children or grandchildren, anniversaries, travel plans, operations, illness. Just keep in touch and let us know what is happening that is exciting or not so exciting in your lives. Who knows. You may have lost contact with a Brother Master Mason would like to reconnect with.
Do you know any Brother who is missing, ill or not feeling good contact and leave their name and phone number with the Secretary.
This information will be given to the Master and Chaplain.
Dues are due January 1, 2003.

Fraternally,

Norm Furman, Secretary

For the Ladies, from the First Lady of 406

From Elizabeth Avetisian:
It’s hard to believe our year is over. Both Edward and I enjoyed his mastership tremendously. Thanks to all your support and participation I think we had a very successful year. Each successful year also lays the foundation for the year following, and both Edward and I are confident that next year will be just as great.
To mark our last meeting and show our appreciation, we have planned the January stated meeting to have some fun with the show of various hobbies and collections and serving of homemade cinnamon rolls and hot beverages. Ladies, if you have such collection that you would like to share with us, please showcase them at our next meeting on Thursday, January 2nd during the social hour starting at 7:00 PM or simply join us for hot rolls and tea and share an enjoyable evening with the Ladies. I hope to see you soon.

Sincerely,
Elizabeth
