Trestleboard Messages for February 2003

From the East

Brethren:
It is an honor for me to finally speak to you all from the East! It has been a long road to get here; one that has sent me on many different journeys and has brought me to many different crossroads. Along the way I have made many friends and learned many lessons, both about myself and about others.
I am looking forward to a fun filled year for Burbank 406. This year we are going to concentrate a little more on the return of “Lodge Family Involvement.” A few of the ways we are going to do this are through more Dinners, Fellowship Friday's, and the much missed Summer Family BBQ. Family and friends are invited to attend all dinners and events unless otherwise mentioned in the Trestleboard. In addition to our traditional dinner events such as Sweethearts Night and Trout Fry, several dinners will occur prior to our Stated Meetings.
Fellowship Friday's, beginning on the February 7th will prove to be a great opportunity for our early birds to get back to lodge. This year we will return to McCambridge Park for the highly missed summer BBQ. I believe these events have the potential to be great successes, but only if we have the attendance of everyone.
One of Worshipful Avetisian's goals for this last year was youth group involvement with our Bethel's and DeMolay. I would like to continue this idea and encourage all our membership to attend the various youth group activities throughout the year. I know that it means a lot to them. You can find their meeting schedules in the trestleboard.
Burbank has one of the hardest working groups of line officers anywhere. Week in and week out they are there to serve in the kitchen, clean up the dining room, practice and exemplify degrees and coach candidates. In my note to you every month, I would like to dedicate a small portion of my column introducing you to our Junior Officers.
This month we highlight our Senior Deacon, Brother Ken Barnes. Ken is the second son of three boys born to Worshipful Chris Sr. & Judy Barnes. A 1992 graduate of Crescenta Valley High School, Ken was active in Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts and Burbank DeMolay. He served as Master Councilor two times, received the degree of Chevalier and was also honored with the Distinguished Service Award. Following in the footsteps of his father and grandfather, Worshipful M.L. “Ed” Headington, he joined Burbank Lodge at age of 21. One of his greatest thrills thus far in masonry, was the opportunity to serve in his fathers line as Chaplain the year Chris Sr. was Master. In September 2001 Ken married his best friend, Kelly Brennan. The couple currently resides in Burbank. In Ken's free time he enjoys, poker, golf, the shooting sports, camping and fishing (just to name a few). Thank you for your hard work and dedication Ken, your brethren appreciate it.
Fraternally, Greg

From the West

Brethren!
Before I dive into my first article as Senior Warden of Burbank Lodge #406, I want to once again congratulate all the new officers of our Lodge. A personal “Thanks” goes out to all the ladies who helped with setting up for Installation, it was a challenging couple of nights/days, but we managed to pull it off with your help. Congratulations to Worshipful Doug Bragg and Holly who put on a wonderful evening.
We have a very strong core of officers this year who are not only Brothers but friends as well. I know this year is going to present challenges for every one of the officers, but I want to lay a challenge in front of you all as well. Obviously, many of us are busy in our everyday lives, this officers line can attest to that, but we still make a sincere effort to do our best for the good of the Lodge and the Craft of Masonry. Many of you who have not attended Lodge in the past year need to try to come and show your support. There were many important decisions made last year under the tenure of Worshipful Ed Avetisian, and I know there will be for Worshipful Bragg as well. We need your opinions and support, so please try to make it out; we would really appreciate having you there.
The month of January was a very busy one at the Lodge. Not only was Installation a big part of the month, but we managed to squeeze in several First Degrees. I want to congratulate all of our Brothers who were initiated last month; you all make great additions to our Lodge. We are slowly starting to build our membership and I firmly believe that the strength of our Lodge lies with continuing to focus on community involvement. One of the ways we can be seen in the public is through our Child ID program. The Child ID program is a great service we do for the community and should be again this year. There are many events planned for our Child ID program this year and Burbank 406 will make a strong showing. Letting people know who we really are as Masons is an important task. There are still many mistruths about Masonry and the best way to improve our status is through education.
February brings a new month and Master to the Lodge. I know Worshipful Bragg and the rest of the Lodge would love to see everyone for Greg's inaugural Stated Meeting. We look forward to seeing you all from our new positions in the Lodge. We will also have our Sweetheart's dinner this month with the meal to be served by the new culinary king, Brother Tim Halm. Everyone is encouraged to attend so invite your friends and family, just don't forget to make a reservation. Lastly, I wanted to wish you all a Happy Valentine's Day!
Fraternally, Jason

From the South

Brethren:
Welcome to the new Masonic year. We had a great Installation of Officers. Congratulations to our newest Master, Worshipful Greg Bragg. He did a great job with planning the Installation and kudos to Andy and the delectable eats. I think it is safe to say, “a great time was had by all.”
One of my first duties as Junior Warden is the dinner for our upcoming Sweethearts Night. It is Thursday February 13th at 6:00 PM. Please make your reservations as soon as possible. The Menu will be Chicken with Vegetables and Rice. The price will be $10.00 for the Gentlemen, Ladies Eat Free. I hope to see everyone there.
I am really excited to be your Junior Warden and look forward to working with Greg, Jason, and all our officers. This is a time of tremendous growth for Burbank 406 with a number of new Brothers. Lets keep this ball rolling and keep the Brotherhood alive!
Fraternally, Timothy J. Halm
