Trestleboard Messages for March 2003

From the East

Brethren:
Hello again from the East Brethren! We are moving along now, well into our stride for the year. Fellowship Fridays are seeing a weekly increase in attendance and my thanks to Worshipful Dick Carter and Worshipful Harry Gunn for helping to pull it off each week. Remember, everyone is welcome to stop by every Friday from 7 to 10 AM.
For those of you who do not know, Burbank 406 has an “award winning” web site. You can find us at http://www.calodges.org/no406/. The person who is responsible for the success of this site is Worshipful Art Seddon. Art has been keeping up the website for a few years now. If you get a chance, fire up the Internet and take a peek. It is loading with a ton of interesting facts as well as the current officers articles, monthly calendar and contact information. Thanks Art!
This month’s Junior Officer highlight is Brother Marc Canterbury. Brother Marc currently serves as Burbank’s Junior Deacon. Marc was born and raised in Burbank where he graduated from Burroughs High School in 1974. In March 1975 Marc joined the U.S. Army and served in Germany for three years as a Heavy Equipment Mechanic. After the service he attended LA Trade Tech where he earned his Journeyman’s degree in Diesel Mechanics. He currently works for a trucking company in Vernon CA. as General Manager. Marc met his wife Laurie in high school and the two married in 1983. The couple has two sons, Nathan 19 and Kiel 17. The family resides in Castaic CA. Marc was raised in Burbank Lodge in 2001. Marc is a third generation Mason, active in Pasadena Scottish Rite where he serves as Temple Guard, Al Malaikah Shrine in L.A. and Burbank High-12 Club. Thanks for your hard work and dedication Marc, your Brethren appreciate it!
Fraternally, Greg

Anna Sudano

Anna Sudano passed away on February 8, 2003 at the Masonic Home in Union City, California. She was interred at Fairhaven Memorial Park in Saugus on February 15, 2003.
Anna was the widow of Raymond Sudano, Master of Burbank Lodge No. 406 in 1947. Ray was Tyler of Burbank Lodge until his sudden death on New Years Eve, 1977.
Anna is remembered by many of the old timers not only for her bubbly personality around the Lodge, but also for her pizza when she and Ray would host the long running floating poker game that many of the members participated in.
A few years after Ray died Anna entered the Masonic Home at Covina and became an unofficial house “Grandmother” to the young residents. A few years ago when her health started to decline she was transferred to Union City where there is extensive medical facilities. The last time that Mitzi and I visited her she was receiving excellent care, but was suffering from Alzheimer and didn't know who we were.
She was a Grand Lady.
      Fraternally,
      Art Seddon

From the West

Brethren!
It’s hard to believe the month of March is already upon us. This year is off to a quick start and we have already had some nice events in the Lodge. The Sweetheart’s Dinner held last month was a beautiful night put together by our Junior Warden and his crew of officers and youth groups. The standard seems to be set high and we are expecting some nice dinners to follow!! I am sure Worshipful Bragg will keep you busy Tim.
Brothers Ken Barnes and Marc Canterbury made their inaugural presence in the East last month for two Entered Apprentice Degrees; they both did a phenomenal job and we will no doubt see them in the months ahead. I would again like to congratulate our newest Entered Apprentice Masons who received their degree this month; we look forward to your passing to Fellowcraft Masons.
Those of you who were at the Stated Meeting for the month of February were able to see the Child ID program and how it works. The Child ID program is still in the infancy stages with our Lodge and we must continue to help it grow. I am looking forward to the months that follow for Child ID and making our presence as Masons known in the community with this foundation is an advantage to our Lodge. The events scheduled for Child ID for Burbank Lodge include the Fire / Police Day, Burbank on Parade and a possible Burbank Block Party in one of the city parks. Stay tuned for further updates.
Lastly, I wanted welcome back those of you who haven’t been in Lodge for a while, you know who you are; it was good seeing you in February and we look forward to seeing you back in the months ahead.
God Bless and Happy St. Patty’s Day!!
Fraternally, Jason

From the South

Brethren:
It has been another fabulous month for Burbank Lodge 406. Our Sweethearts Night was a great success. I would like to thank all who helped pull off a great dinner, especially Mark Canterbury and his wife Laurie, Mark Steiger, and the Young Men and Women of L.C. Kelley Chapter DeMolay and Jobs Daughters Bethel 97.
Our Thanks to everyone who made reservations for Sweethearts Night. As we move further into this Masonic Year I will be talking a lot about making reservations for our dinners. Not only does a reservation assure you a dinner, it allows those of us planning the dinners the ability to purchase plenty of food and plan the decor for the evening. As your Junior Warden, I want to make every event the best I possibly can. You can help me do this by remembering to make that phone call to our Secretary, Worshipful Norm Furman P.M. at 848-3750 and let us know you will be joining us. You can also
E:mail the Secretary at burbanklodge406@att.net.
Our next dinner will precede our Stated meeting for this month. This will be the night of Thursday March 6th. All Masons, family, and friends are invited to this dinner, after which, Master Masons only will be invited to attend the meeting. We will be enjoying a fabulous spaghetti dinner. Remember to call and make that reservation so I can be sure to prepare enough food. Dinner will be $7.00 and begins at 6:00pm. We hope to see you soon.
Fraternally, Tim

From the WebM@ster

      Brethren:
I received permission to post the following message concerning a rare gift for any Brother who may be serving overseas in our country’s military.

      “Brethren All,
During World War II The Temple Publishers donated a great masonic novel written by Carl H. Claudy called "The Lion's Paw" to our servicemen overseas. This book was "Dedicated to all Master Masons in Service to our Country".
As the owner of The Temple Publishers I would like to make that offer again during these trying times. I am willing to donate a book and mailing to any Master Mason on Active Duty to our country beyond our borders in appreciation of their service. Please contact me personally at
donate@thetemplebooks.com (not through this web-site) with the members name, lodge and mailing address. I will also proudly include a letter of appreciation to them. Please feel free to inform all Masons of this offer.

Joe Ohlandt,
The Temple Publishers,
