Trestleboard Messages for April 2003

From the East

Brethren:
It has been a long time since Burbank has had this many candidates moving through the degrees. As of this writing, we have 8 Masons actively working towards achieving the sublime degree of Master Mason. I imagine that by August they will all have completed this goal. Burbank Lodge is growing and with that, getting stronger.
Our next big event for everyone is the night of our May Stated Meeting, May First. Beginning with the Annual Trout Fry at 6:00 PM, we will seal the time capsule and it willl be the first official visit of our new District Inspector, Donald L. Griffiths as well as the annual visit of The Burbank Glendale Shrine Club.
This month's Junior Officer spotlight is on Bro. Steven J. Harris. Bro. Harris is a 20 year Master Mason and a jack-of-all-trades in the lodge. He has served Burbank Lodge in several officer positions and this year he agreed to serve as Burbank's Junior Steward. Steve has the distinction of being born in Japan and raised in Santa Monica. He is a graduate of Santa Monica High School and received his Bachelor of Arts from California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo. After college, he served our country for over 12 years as a US Army Signal Corps Officer and was posted to Germany twice, New Jersey, Colorado, Kansas, and Georgia. Steve currently works for the Metropolitan Water District of Southern California as a Senior Administrative Analyst in their Information Technology Section. Bro. Harris is a single father of two autistic sons, Joe 18 and Dan 16 who reside with him in their house in Burbank and they all enjoy running his 1/8th scale train in Griffith Park. Bro. Steve was raised to the Sublime degree in Galilei Lodge #810A of the American-Canadian Grand Lodge in Kaiserslautern, Germany, where he is still a member. He cherishes the memory of having sat in lodge with his grandfather, father, and several uncles. Bro. Harris affiliated with Burbank Lodge in 1995 and is also a current member of the Pasadena Scottish Rite, Al Malaikah Shrine, and the Burbank-Glendale Shrine Club. Thanks for your time and effort Steve; your brethren appreciate it.
Fraternally, Greg

From the West

Brethren!
The Lodge is really getting busy with degrees and events this year. We have had quite a nice increase in applications accepted in the past few months and we are looking forward to more and more. The new faces of our Lodge would like to meet all of you, so when you see a degree scheduled, be sure to come out and show your support.
The month of April is an especially busy time for our Lodge. Not only do we have a number of degrees scheduled, but also the annual Public Schools Night on April 10th, as well as Burbank on Parade which is planned for Saturday, April 26th. Burbank on Parade is a great day for me as Senior Warden as I have the pleasure to use the Child ID program. Last year we had a pretty good showing and hopefully we will continue in the years to come. We invite all of you to these events, as they are a great way to show not only our true colors of Masonry, but also the support we have for our community. Please contact the Lodge to confirm dates/times.
As we head into the second quarter of the year, there are uncertain times ahead, both for the Lodge and for our country. I ask that you say a prayer for our troops abroad and on our homeland that they continue to protect our freedom and that they return home safely to their families.
      Have a great month!
Fraternally, Jason

From the South

Brethren:
All I can say is WOW! Here we are, only a few months into the new Masonic year and the degrees have not slowed down. If you haven't been to a degree lately, you really should come on down to The Center. We have some great candidates for all degrees and an exciting buzz around the lodge.
Burbank Lodge has been enjoying a great deal of success with our Fellowship Friday's. Be sure to stop in and grab a donut, some coffee, and some great conversation every Friday Morning from 7:00 AM to 10:00 AM.
Don't miss our Public Schools Night coming up on April 10th at 6:00 PM. This night is put on in partnership with Magnolia Park #618. I encourage you to get there early as this event is always very well attended. We will be serving the food this year (Burgers, Hot Dogs, etc.) and I am always thrilled to have the brethren of Burbank Lodge there to help. This is a huge opportunity for us to show the community what we are about as we recognize the hard work of the students and teachers of this wonderful city.
I will leave you with a friendly reminder to make a reservation if you would like to attend one of our dinners. Be sure to call the Lodge at 818-846-3750 or
E:mail Secretary and let us know.
Fraternally, Tim
