Trestleboard Messages for May 2003

From the East

Brethren:
Going into May the Lodge faces a series of tough decisions regarding the Lodge‘s Glenoaks Property at Olive Avenues. I encourage every Master Mason to attend the May Stated Meeting in an effort to voice your opinion and/or vote on these crucial issues.
In the works for our August Stated Meeting, is the return of the Annual Summer BBQ. As in the past this event will precede the Stated Meeting. The event is still in the planning stages and will be held either at the Lodge or in the park.
Fraternally, Greg

From the West

Brethren!
Don’t look now but May is already among us. This year has brought many successful evenings to our Lodge, and I must say that the Public Schools Night that we just celebrated went off without a hitch. Brother Ken Barnes and Joe Woods from Magnolia Park #618 sure deserve the praise they are receiving. Congratulations guys, it was great!
I know many of us are still in limbo as to their opinions on what we are going to do with the property on Glenoaks, and to be quite frank, it is a sensitive issue. I was not there for the Stated Meeting in April (for which I apologize to the brethren), however, from what I have heard, everyone was able to voice their opinions and comment to one another on how they think the property should be dealt with. This has been talked about for many years and I think we are finally coming to a conclusion of what needs to be done. I know that we are all anticipating the outcome but please continue to be patient with the results. We are doing our best to make sure the right decision is made.
I would like to thank Bro. Steve Harris for his help and suggestions for the Child ID program. He made the inaugural appearance with the Child ID last month and the Burbank Center for the Retarded, and from what I have heard, it was a successful event. We had planned on being at Burbank on Parade; however, there was a space issue that will prohibit us from doing it this year. Our next event will be the Burbank Police and Fire day this month on the 10th, check with the Lodge to confirm the date/time.
Lastly, I look forward to seeing you all at the Trout Fry dinner on May 1st. This will also be our Inspectorþs official visit to the Lodge and it will begin at 6:00 PM - be sure to call the Lodge and make a reservation, this event tends to fill up quickly.
Fraternally, Jason

From the South

Brethren:
Is it May already? This year seems to be flying by. We are keeping very busy with our degrees and I for one am thrilled and honored to be able to participate so actively in the making of so many men into Masons. All throughout my childhood my family included me as much as they could in so many Masonic events. By my teens I could not wait to be in DeMolay. Now that I am an adult and a Mason, I can more fully realize the value of the lessons taught to me.
I started thinking about this after our very successful Public Schools Night. I must say Congratulations to our Senior Deacon Ken Barnes and his co-planner Joe Woods, Senior Deacon of Magnolia Park #618, for a fabulous evening. We served a lot of burgers and hot dogs to some very excited young people. From my station in the kitchen I heard only praise for the evening. I must thank all the brethren who helped me in the kitchen, Wor. Tom Oldham, Wor. Richard Carter, S.W. Jason Cunningham, Mark Steiger, and the young men and advisors of L.C. Kelley chapter DeMolay who all volunteered their time in the kitchen. If I missed your name I apologize.
Looking ahead on our calendar, I see that our annual Trout Fry and Inspectors visit is coming up on May 1st at 6:00 PM, I will really need reservations for this one. To leave a reservation, please call the Lodge at 818-848-3750. I also encourage you to check your calendars or call a brother if you miss a meeting as we have been adding degree nights frequently.
Fraternally, Tim
