Trestleboard Messages for February 2004

From the East

Brethren & Ladies,
I would like to start this article by thanking all the Officers and their Ladies for the help with installation last month.
It was a great event and a night that I will never forget. I am truly indebted to Worshipful Andy DeCaro and his wife Gail who put on a tremendous dinner that evening, “Thank you so much for your hard work and time — as always you went above and beyond the call of duty”. I would also like to thank my wife and family for their assistance and support in the coming months. Overall, I think the evening went off without a hitch. Congratulations to all the newly installed officers, we are going to have a great year.
I am pleased to announce that this year we will be having a degree trip to Paso Robles Lodge No. 286. We are scheduled to perform a Master Mason degree on Saturday, June 26th and I hope all of you can make it. I have been speaking to Worshipful Jerry Boxer, Master of Paso Robles Lodge, for the past few weeks and, at first, I was a little worried we would not be able to make the trip up there due to the earthquake suffered by the city in December. Worshipful Boxer did, however, inform me that they should have everything in order for us when we see him in June. Paso Robles Lodge is where I was raised and I am looking forward to getting back there.
Also on the horizon are Dodger Night, a trip to an Angels game, a jazz night picnic at the Hollywood Bowl, and much more. One of the events that I am really putting a lot of effort in is the building dedication ceremony. I have spoken to Rite Worshipful David Doah on a few occasions and he has put us on the Grand Lodge's schedule for November 20th. We will be having a block party in the parking lot, much like the Cornerstone ceremony held in 2001. This should be a terrific way to highlight our Lodge and spotlight us in the community. These events do take a lot of planning, so if you are interested in helping, please let one of the officers or myself know.
For those Brothers who have not made it to Lodge in a while, I challenge you to come and show your support for your officers. We have put in many hours of dedication and hard work to make sure the integrity of Burbank Lodge lives on, and we sure would appreciate seeing you in the coming months. My door is always open, so if you have any comments or suggestions for the coming year, please do not hesitate to contact me.
Have a great month and Happy Valentine's Day!

Fraternally,
Jason

From the West

Brethren!
      Hello from The West.
I am very excited right now, as my journey through Masonry has just taken another step. I am really thrilled to have the opportunity to serve Burbank Lodge as your Senior Warden. If the success of our installation is any indication, Burbank Lodge is in for a fabulous year with Worshipful Jason Cunningham at the helm.
One of my responsibilities as Senior Warden is the Child I.D. program. The Burbank Lodges have developed a reputation in our community for providing this service. This year I hope to continue to build on that reputation and to provide this valuable service to as many families as possible. Don't be afraid to pass my name and phone number along to anyone who wants to know more about what we do.
As I pass the keys to the kitchen on to our new Junior Warden, I want to thank everyone who helped me so much last year. I must also remind everyone to help Brother Barnes by making your reservations for dinners! Sweethearts Night is February 12th at 6:00 PM. Reservations are essential for the planning of each dinner we put on by calling the Secretary at (818) 848-3750 or
E:mail Secretary.
Congratulations to our newest Master Mason, Brother Winders. Burbank Lodge did a great job with their first degree of the New Year! I invite all Fellowcraft and Master Masons to join us for our Second Degree on February 19th 7:30 PM. Show your new Brother Fellowcract and your Lodge support by attending.

Fraternally,
Timothy J. Halm

From the South

Brethren:
As the 2003 Masonic Year is now a page in history, I congratulate Worshipful Greg Bragg and his officers on a successful year and a job well done. Thank you to every member who has expressed your confidence by electing me to serve as your Junior Warden for the ensuing, year. I consider it an honor and a pleasure to serve.
I would like to express a special thanks to my late Grandfather, Worshipful Ed Headington for planting the seed of Masonry in me. To my Father, Worshipful Chris Barnes, for always supporting and encouraging me. And to Worshipful Dick Carter for his countless hours of ritual work, wisdom and enthusiasm. Without these three Masonic idols, I would not be where I am today.
I look forward to a fun filled year of wearing the chef's hat also. I challenge everybody to support this year's dinners and events, and remember that you will receive as much out of Masonry as what you put in. I encourage every Mason, Lady, and Widow to support my second kitchen creation by attending our annual Sweethearts Dinner on February 12th. Please remember that reservations are a must, and all Ladies and Widows are our guests. Come hungry and we will see you there!
"Most folks are about as happy as they make up their minds to be" (Abraham Lincoln 1809-1865)

Fraternally,
Ken Barnes

From the Secretary's Desk

Brethren:
2004 - A New Year, New Officers (One Retread) New Events and a successful transition.
Dues remain the same, although Grand Lodge continues to increase the per capita tax on the all lodges. A very serious problem in keeping our dues aligned with our ever increasing expenses. With the new year, the officers will be reviewing the lodge income and expenses. We are always looking for new ideas for increasing income and reducing the lodge expenses. If you have any suggestions, direct your thoughts to the Secretary's desk.
As always, I remind all the Brethren that your dues are due on January 1st of each year and you make my job easier when your dues are paid. I do not like to remind anyone their dues are not paid.
Along with reminders, if you are planning on changing your address, please send by snail-mail,
e:mail or phone me with address changes. The U. S. Postal Service postage for returned mail remains one of the expenses of concern.
I thank each and every Brother and look forward to serving the Brethren of Burbank Lodge for another year.

Fraternally,
Norm Furman, Secretary
