Trestleboard Messages for February 2005

From the East

Brethren,
Greetings, and welcome to a new Masonic Year. I would like to begin by thanking all of the brethren for allowing me the opportunity to serve Burbank Lodge as Master. I look forward to a great year working with some of the best officers a Lodge could ask for.
Burbank Lodge is getting off to quite a start. I must first begin by congratulating Brother Dow on becoming Burbank Lodge's newest Master Mason. Congratulations also go out to Brother Drinkwater on receiving his second degree. Let's not forget the officers of the Lodge who did a great job in both degrees. Keep up the great work.
Burbank Lodge has always been a Lodge that takes great pride in its ritual. This year will be no exception. If you haven't been to a degree recently, I encourage you to come out. I know you will be pleased to see the work of your lodge officers.
Some of the plans for this year include many of our annual events such as the Trout Fry, Bar-B-Q in the Park, and our Sweethearts Night, which is Thursday the 10th. Make your reservations now. Without a reservation, we will not guarantee you a seat. Call Norm at (818)-848-3750 right away! I encourage you to make a reservation for each dinner you would like to attend. Brother John Brennan has some great ideas for our refreshment this year and he really must know that you want to attend so he can be sure to save you a seat. I promise to make sure to include the lodge phone number in each article I write so you always have it handy.
Be sure to keep the last Thursday of every month open for Burbank Lodge's Family Night. Everyone's invited. Bring your family, friends, anyone who might like to enjoy an evening of movies, games, refreshment and fellowship. This is an extension of our very successful Movie Nights and I look forward to seeing you there.
We are also looking at lots of other ideas for events, so keep an eye on your Trestleboard for more information. I would like to finish this month's article with an expression of sincere thanks to every single person who helped me with this year's installation. A great time was had by all. You are each an incredible asset to this lodge and we are very lucky to have you. Thank You.
Fraternally,
Timothy J. Halm,
Worshipful Master

From the West

Brethren!
As we start our first full month with our newly set of officers, I would like to thank everybody who came out to support our Annual Installation of Officers. As I am now the newly installed Senior Warden, I have a whole new list of responsibilities. Not only am I in charge of planning my 2006 Year as Master (if elected that is), but it is also my duty to set up and tear down the lodge room for every stated meeting and degree. My highlight responsibility for this next year is to head up the Child ID program. For those of you who do not know about this program, it is set up to instantly provide parents with a full identification sheet about their child including a description of their physical features as well as a picture and fingerprint. Parents may carry this printout with them to be prepared for any unfortunate event. This program is completely free of charge and we would love to provide this service at any event within our community. Please call the lodge, or contact me personally, if you need any further information or if you would like to set up an event. As we say in masonry, "All you have to do is ask!"
I would also like to recognize a few Burbank Lodge members regarding some recent good news. First I would like to recognize Brother Mark Steiger and Brother Marc Canterbury (Mark and Marc or vise versa) on being the recipients of the prestigious "C. Mark Steiger Award." Either one or both of these Brothers assisted me at every single dinner that I was responsible for last year. Your efforts were greatly appreciated and not one minute of labor went unnoticed! I would also like to congratulate Brother Herb Rowher on being installed President and Brother Marc Canterbury on being installed Vice President of the Burbank Shrine Club for 2005. Congratulations to Worshipful Andy DeCaro on becoming a grandpa once again! Also, congratulations to Brother Jeff Lindstrom on becoming engaged over the Holidays for a wedding planned this year. Lastly, I would like to congratulate my brother, Brother Chris Barnes II on becoming a dad for the second time. On January 10, Chris and his wife Dawn gave birth to a very healthy and handsome (like his Uncle) baby boy named Christopher Alexander James Barnes. Everybody is home and doing great!

From the South

Brethren:
WOW! The excitement has now set in. I am honored to have been elected by the Brethren, and now Installed to serve Burbank Lodge No. 406 Free & Accepted Masons as Junior Warden for the ensuing Masonic year. I look forward to a successful year, and the opportunity to help lead our lodge over the next three years. The leadership of our Lodge is quite unique this year. Our top three officers are all Past Master Councilors of the International Order of DeMolay. This shows us how important the Masonic youth orders are to our community, and to the future and strength of our own Lodge. Let's not forget to support our Burbank DeMolay and Job's Daughters by attending their meetings and fundraisers.
This past year the Junior Warden, Brother Ken Barnes has definitely fulfilled his obligation in the kitchen. We have had creative dinners and refreshments all year long. Ken is not only my lodge brother, but also my brother-in-law and long time friend. I hope to be able to continue to fill the large shoes he has left behind. My first order of business in the kitchen will be our annual "Sweethearts Dinner" February 10th at 6:30 P.M. All ladies will be guests of Burbank Lodge. As we all know this will be a well attended function, so please make your reservations with the Secretary as soon as possible. Reservations are a must!!
My wife, Susan and I really do look forward to the next three years, and hope not only to strengthen the friendships that we have, but create many more.
Fraternally,
John T. Brennan,
Junior Warden

OPERATION PHONE HOME

Operation Phone Home is a campaign designed with the goal of providing prepaid international phone calling cards to as many military men and women serving overseas as can be reached. It will be an ongoing effort as long as American Military Personnel serve overseas, particularly in Iraq, Afghanistan, and the Balkans.
The Masonic Service Association, on behalf of the Masonic fraternity, has entered into an agreement with the USO to participate in this program. MSA has met all of the requirements necessary to have a web site presence and a link to the USO web page and to have a Masonic Logo on the phone card. The card will include the logo of the USO, the participating phone company (AT&T), and the American Flag. On the left side of the card will appear the Square and Compasses and the words Compliments of America's Freemasons.
(Image below)
Anyone wishing to participate in this program may send a donation marked Operation Phone Home to:
                              The Masonic Service Association
                              8120 Fenton Street
                              Silver Spring, MD 20910-4785.
All of the monies received will go to this program and an accounting will be made by MSA at the end of each calendar year.
