Trestleboard Messages for March 2005

From the East

Brethren & Ladies,
Have you ever had a friend or family member who always wanted to get an idea about what goes on at the Masonic Center but never seemed to be able to make that "dinner". Well, on the last Thursday of every month we have an opportunity for you to introduce that friend or family member to your Masonic Center. I am very pleased to let you know that so far our Family Nights have been a great success. As we progress through this year, John, Ken and I will be working to make Family Night as much fun as possible. Please feel free to make suggestions. Our first step to improving Family Night includes moving to 7:00 P.M. I also encourage you to keep an eye on the calendar, as we will be featuring a Chili night and other theme nights later in the year.
The most frequently asked question about Family Night seems to be "Is it just for Lodge members?" The answer is a cheerfully said "No, It is for everyone!" We are opening the doors to anyone who wants to come in. Just come on down to the lodge and start enjoying the fellowship and fun. If you ever have any questions, feel free to contact us at(818)-848-3750.
I am pleased to announce that the Trestleboard will be undergoing some minor changes over the course of this Masonic year. It is our hope to make it more useful and give it a fresher feel. Feel free to let us know what you think. As I have tried to do in most of my articles, I will again encourage each of you to watch the calendar of events as we are adding some different listings such as Temple Board meetings, and events of other groups.
If you missed this years Sweethearts night, you missed quite an event. It was very well attended. I want to take this time to thank our Junior Warden, Brother Brennan, and his entire crew for coming together and putting on such a great night. The pictures were sure a hit! I look forward to the next dinner to see what Brother Brennan has in store for us.
Congratulations to Brother Brennan and all the officers of Burbank Lodge for putting on a fabulous first degree for our newest Brother in Masonry, Mr. Steve Van Orsow.
As is always the case, if you ever have any questions, feel free to call the lodge at (818)-848-3750.
Fraternally,
Timothy J. Halm,
Worshipful Master

From the West

Brethren!
Can you believe that March is already here? By the time these Trestleboards are hot off the press and in your hands, this 2005 Masonic year is about 16% over! In my nine years of Masonry with Burbank Masonic Lodge I have seen nine different Worshipful Masters and their nine different officer's line diligently working to carry this beautiful fraternity to where we are today. I have attended hundreds of meetings and events during this time and it is amazing to reflect upon the many different evenings.
During this time many traditions have come and gone; some intentionally, and some not knowingly. Can you think of any traditions of events that you can remember that are no longer in the calendar? Are there any new ones that you would like to start? As mentioned before, please let me know. From the Vegas Strip to degree trips; we want to plan events that are attractive to you and your families. I challenge every member of Burbank Lodge to approach me with an event idea that you would like see happen in the 2006 Masonic year!
From an Irishman myself, I would like to wish everybody a very Happy St. Patty's Day on the 17th. May the luck of the Blarney be with you all! As if St. Patrick's Day is not reason enough to celebrate and party for the whole month of March, I would also like to wish Worshipful Dick Carter a very Happy 89th Birthday this month!
"Masonry is not good because it is old. Masonry is old because it is good." Right Worshipful Fred Sorsabal, Deputy Grand Master 2005
Fraternally,
Kenneth L. Barnes
Senior Warden

From the South

Brethren:
February was a successful month for Burbank Lodge. Susan and I were so happy to see there were over 100 people at our Sweethearts Dinner. Thanks to everyone who made reservations, we were able to plan and budget accordingly. The Jobs Daughters and DeMolay were a huge help. If you have the opportunity to see one of these fine individuals, please let them know that you appreciate their support of the Lodge.
This is the second Trestleboard article I have ever written, and I would like to know who is reading the articles I am spending time to write. I would like to propose a challenge to all of the Brethren and Ladies. If you took the time to read this please let me know. You could either let me know when we see each other at Lodge, by phone, or e-mail. My phone numbers are listed on the back page of this trestleboard. I hope to get over 100 responses before my next article so I know my message and thoughts along with the Master and Senior Wardens are being heard.
We have approx. 300 members in our Lodge, and I could probably say that I know 75 of them by name. I can say for myself that this is not by choice. I would like the opportunity to meet, and at least know a few things about every Brother in our Lodge. I do aspire to be the Master of this Lodge some day and I would be ashamed of myself, if I said there are Brethren on our roster that I have never met. I will tell you now Brethren, that the revitalization of our own, and the fellowship among us will be one of my main focuses as Master of this Lodge.
Before I become Master of this Lodge I will know, or extend and effort to talk to each and every member of Burbank Lodge. I would like to ask the Brethren for help. If we have not met, please assist me in making the effort to meet you. If you do not attend Lodge regularly, please contact me by phone, letter, or e-mail. The building of our membership from within will help strengthen the Lodge and lead it into the future.
Fraternally,
John T. Brennan,
Junior Warden

From the Secretary's Desk

Brethren:
I repeat: "Dues Are Past Due!
Burbank Lodge is into the First Quarter of the year and some Brethren have not paid their dues for the Masonic year 2005,
A dues remittance envelope was sent to all of the Brethren of the Lodge in December and will be sent again in March of this year. Check your dues receipt and verify if your dues are current. If not current, remits your dues in the envelope provided to you with your remittance.
The Brethren and Officers desire each and every Brother remain a current member of Burbank Lodge. Your dues maintain the operation of your Lodge. The Brethren of the Lodge thank you for your caring. |

Fraternally,
Norm Furman, Secretary

Did You Know That?

Drinking two glasses of Gatorade can relieve headache pain
almost immediately - without the unpleasant side effects
caused by traditional "pain relievers."

Colgate toothpaste makes an excellent salve for burns.

Before you head to the drugstore for a high-priced inhaler
filled with mysterious chemicals, try chewing on a couple
of curiously strong Altoids peppermints.
They'll clear up your stuffed nose.

OPERATION PHONE HOME

Operation Phone Home is a campaign designed with the goal of providing prepaid international phone calling cards to as many military men and women serving overseas as can be reached. It will be an ongoing effort as long as American Military Personnel serve overseas, particularly in Iraq, Afghanistan, and the Balkans.
The Masonic Service Association, on behalf of the Masonic fraternity, has entered into an agreement with the USO to participate in this program. MSA has met all of the requirements necessary to have a web site presence and a link to the USO web page and to have a Masonic Logo on the phone card. The card will include the logo of the USO, the participating phone company (AT&T), and the American Flag. On the left side of the card will appear the Square and Compasses and the words Compliments of America's Freemasons.
(Image below)
Anyone wishing to participate in this program may send a donation marked Operation Phone Home to:
                              The Masonic Service Association
                              8120 Fenton Street
                              Silver Spring, MD 20910-4785.
All of the monies received will go to this program and an accounting will be made by MSA at the end of each calendar year.
Or go to http://freemasonry.org and follow the links.

Thank you very much for your help!
