Brethren!
As I sit alone in the West every month with no sideliners next to me, I often find myself contemplating many different subjects.
One question that usually crosses my mind is the subject of next months Trestleboard article. As Senior Warden my responsibilities basically consist of two things this year.
The first is the Child ID Program and the second is the preparation for the next year as Master (if elected that is!). We had our first Child ID Program on April 24th. I was not able to attend, but the event ended up being a real success. Steve Harris headed up the event and carried it out without any problems. I would like to extend a special “Thank You” to him, as well as Worshipful Chris Barnes, Sterling Lockett, Lynn Schwenneker, Dave Bochard,
and the DeMolays for jumping in and making the event into a real success!
Our second event was on May 21, which was Assemblyman Dario Frommer’s Block Party. I was able to attend this one, and it was also a great event. Thanks so much to all the Brethren who assisted me and made it a very enjoyable afternoon. I am finally proud to say that in less than one month we had two successful events where Burbank Lodge was well represented in the community by donating out time and services to a positive cause. Isn’t that what we
are all about anyways?
Secondly, I am well on my way to planning Lodgeþs 2006 Calendar of events. My goal is to have a very exciting year filled with a vast array of different events. I plan on having much more ladies and family participation, social events, fun trips, degree trips, visitations, establishing new traditions as well as carrying on long standing ones, and the list goes on and on. The only thing that I am missing on next year’s calendar of events are your ideas! I
am encouraging everybody to approach me in the next two months with at least one idea. Everybody includes anybody. It could be an EA, FC, MM, a wife, a widow, a DeMolay or a Jobs Daughter. If you plan on supporting the 2006 Masonic Year, then I want your input. It could be asking me to continue something that we already do, or it could be an idea that has never heard of. For all Brethren, If you would like to be an officer next year, or if you would like to be involved at all by being on a committee
or in charge of setting up an event, please contact me at any time. If you want to be involved, we will make room for you! Trust me, you will want to be involved!
In closing, I would like to congratulate Worshipful Halm once again on his marriage to his beautiful bride, Jamie.

Brethren:
Membership development has two components:
1. Attract new members
2. Retain members and motivate involvement
The best way for our Lodge to be successful at both attracting and retaining members is to offer a comprehensive and diverse program of activities that have broad member appeal. The program selection should include personal growth and leadership, socialization with family members, community service, support of public education, and other programs that clearly and publicly demonstrate Masonic values and dedication to the community. Knowing and meeting member
needs will develop and retain members, encourage their involvement, and motivate them to refer potential new members. Successful lodges will implement the Pass It On Program and will frequently sponsor Masonic Information Nights.
The Pass It On Program
The PASS IT ON program was developed as a tool to build Lodge membersþ skills in attracting and retaining members. Based on recent research and the collective experiences of many California Masons, the program is a step-by-step process for attracting and retaining lodge members.

Brethren here are some ideas to think about when you are trying to attract new members to lodge.

OPERATION PHONE HOME
Operation Phone Home is a campaign designed with the goal of providing prepaid international phone calling cards to as many military men and women serving overseas as can be reached. It will be an ongoing effort as long as American Military Personnel serve overseas, particularly in Iraq, Afghanistan, and the Balkans.
The Masonic Service Association, on behalf of the Masonic fraternity, has entered into an agreement with the USO to participate in this program. MSA has met all of the requirements necessary to have a web site presence and a link to the USO web page and to have a Masonic Logo on the phone card. The card will include the logo of the USO, the participating phone company (AT&T), and the American Flag. On the left side of the card will appear the Square and
Compasses and the words Compliments of America's Freemasons. (Image below)
Anyone wishing to participate in this program may send a donation marked Operation Phone Home to:
The Masonic Service Association
8120 Fenton Street
Silver Spring, MD 20910-4785.
All of the monies received will go to this program and an accounting will be made by MSA at the end of each calendar year.
Or go to http://freemasonry.org and follow the links.
Thank you very much for your help!
