Trestleboard Messages for March 2006

From the East

Brethren
As the month of February has now come to an end, I am pleased to say that Burbank Lodge is off to a very wonderful and successful start. I can’t believe that it has been a month and a half since the installation, and this Masonic year is already 10% over! I welcome Brother Kory Alan Kupiszewski, our newest Entered Apprenticed Mason who was initiated last month. I thank all of the Mason’s Ladies and Masonic Widows who attended our Sweetheart’s Night. It was indeed a pleasure to be honored by your presence, and we look forward to seeing all of you more often!       Unfortunately, the Month of February was sad one when Brother Goody Glance passed away on the 11th. Fortunately we have many fond memories that can be cherished, but he will be greatly missed.
Although the month of March slows down a little bit, we do have three very special events to promote. As usual, we will start our month with our Stated Meeting on March 2nd. Before the meeting we will have our regular scheduled dinner, but this month, the ladies will be our guests. All Masons and their ladies are encouraged to attend the dinner, but Master Masons only will be welcome into the Stated Meeting. For more details on the Ladies event, please read
my wife’s article included in this Trestleboard.
I would like to encourage all Master Masons and Past Masters to attend the Third Degree on March 23rd. This evening will be held exclusively for Brother Dennis Emeterio II, who passed his Second Degree Proficiency in the month of February.
The last event this month to pay special attention to is our first Social Night of the year. This evening will be held in honor of Worshipful Dick Carter, Past Master, in celebration of his Ninetieth Birthday! His birthday is actually on March 27th, but our celebration will be held on March 30th, the fifth Thursday of the month. Reservations are required. Worshipful Dick has devoted his life to Masonry, so let’s return the favor and show our appreciation by attending his party!
We are also planning a 4 day cruise to Ensenada, Mexico on November 3-6, 2006. We only have 30 rooms reserved and they are going fast. To guarantee your room reservation, please submit your $200.00 deposit as soon as possible “Pronto”. Reservations can be made with travel agent Denise Weed at the Auto Club of S. C. 818.615.2253. Hope to see you on board!
In closing, I extend a special thank you to all of the Past Masters of Burbank Lodge. You have been a wonderful support so far, and I really appreciate all of your attendance at the Lodge. Thanks again, and keep up the good work!

“We cannot always build the future for our youth, but we can build our youth for the future.” — — Brother Franklin D. Roosevelt (1882-1945).

Fraternally,
Kenneth L. Barnes
Worshipful Master

From the West

Brethren!
As my first month of Senior Warden has come and gone I have learned to appreciate all of my new responsibilities and duties for the Masonic Year. I thank all of the Brethren of Burbank Lodge for bestowing their trust in me and electing me to the office of Senior Warden. As the year progresses I hope to fulfill all of my duties as so many Brethren have done in years past.
This year has presented itself with many new beginnings. The New Year began with the exciting news that my wife Susan & I are expecting the arrival of our first child in August. Yes, that is correct Susan is pregnant with our first child! We look forward to a new baby entering our Masonic family.
We have already had a few successful events and meetings this year. I encourage those who have attended to spread the word and allow Burbank Lodge to grow over 2006. When I say grow, I do not mean that we need to grow by our over-all numbers, but instead we need to grow by extending this fellowship to our own members. Let’s continue the good work and in time our Burbank Masonic community will grow!

Fraternally,
John T. Brennan,
Senior Warden

From the South

Greetings from the South.
We started off the month of February with a great turnout for the stated meeting dinner. Let’s keep it up!
The Sweetheart’s Dinner was also an overwhelming success and I thank everyone for their help.
March’s Stated Meeting dinner will be in the theme of Saint Patrick’s Day, and with Irish tradition, Corned Beef and Cabbage will be served. Of course, if you prefer fish as an alternative it will be available but only to those who have made reservations. Please RSVP to the Lodge by Monday, February 27th and please specify what you would like to have for dinner. Once again the cost of dinner will be $10.00.
Future news in the Lodge includes a cruise to Ensenada, Mexico departing on Friday, November 3rd, through Monday, November 6th. I will be handing out flyers with the details this month, or you can call me at home at (661) 257-1598. If you live outside the area and would like a flyer mailed to you, please let me know. We did this trip two years ago. There was a successful turnout and we had a lot of fun.
I look forward to seeing everyone at the upcoming events.

Fraternally yours,
Marc S. Canterbury,
Junior Warden

From the Secretary's Desk

Brethren:
The following article may or may not tickle your fancy!

THE NEW ELEMENT

The recent hurricanes and gasoline issues are proof of the existence of a new chemical element. A major research institution has recently announced the discovery of the heaviest element yet known to science.
      The new element has been named “Governmentium”;
Governmentium (Gv) has one neutron, 25 assistant neutrons, 88 deputy neutrons, and 198 assistant deputy neutrons, giving it an atomic mass of 312. These 312 particles are held together by forces called morons, which are surrounded by vast quantities of lepton-like particles called peons.
Since Governmentium has no electrons, it is inert. However, it can be detected, because it impedes every reaction with which it comes into contact. A minute amount of Governmentium can cause a reaction that would normally take less than a second and take over four days to complete.
Governmentium has a normal half-life of 4 years; it does not decay, but instead undergoes a reorganization in which a portion of the assistant neutrons and deputy neutrons exchange places. In fact, Governmentium's mass will actually increase over time, since each reorganization will cause more morons to become neutrons, forming isodopes.
This characteristic of moron promotion leads some scientists to believe that Governmentium is formed whenever morons reach a critical concentration! This hypothetical quantity is referred to as Critical Morass.
When catalyzed with money, Governmentium becomes Administratium - an element which radiates just as much energy as Governmentium since it has half as many peons but twice as many morons.

A Message From the Master’s Lady

Hello Friends,
I must say, we had a great turn out last month for the Stated Meeting/dinner. I had a GREAT time during our chocolate demonstration with Pearl. We had 12 ladies in attendance, and also one charming young man, Henry (Worshipful Ed Avetisian’s son). We made chocolate covered strawberries and nuts, fudge, truffles, turtles and gnash. Pearl did a fun and informative presentation to show us how easy it is to make chocolate desserts.
We had two wonderful meals in February. I thank Marc and Laurie Canterbury for all the time and special efforts you took in making each night a special one for all who were in attendance. It was nice having a separate night for the Sweethearts dinner so we could sit back, relax and enjoy dinner, dessert and the entertainment.
I invite all ladies to come to the Burbank Lodge on March 2nd for the Stated Meeting/dinner. The ladies event for this month is a craft demonstrated by Judy Barnes. She will be showing us how to make a St. Patrick’s Day wreath. The cost for this craft will be $5.00 per wreath, which will cover all supplies that it will take to make this project. If you plan on making the project please come with a Phillips screwdriver. To make sure that there will be enough supplies for all to participate, please let me know if you plan to make a wreath at the demonstration.
A quick thank you to the people that offered to be on the Mother’s Day Tea committee. I am every excited for this event, and I know it will be a wonderful day. It is so nice to see that we have so many people that want to help and take part in many different ways in making Burbank Lodge the best that it can be!

Love Always,
Kelly Barnes
The Worshipful Master's Lady

OPERATION PHONE HOME

Operation Phone Home is a campaign designed with the goal of providing prepaid international phone calling cards to as many military men and women serving overseas as can be reached. It will be an ongoing effort as long as American Military Personnel serve overseas, particularly in Iraq, Afghanistan, and the Balkans.
The Masonic Service Association, on behalf of the Masonic fraternity, has entered into an agreement with the USO to participate in this program. MSA has met all of the requirements necessary to have a web site presence and a link to the USO web page and to have a Masonic Logo on the phone card. The card will include the logo of the USO, the participating phone company (AT&T), and the American Flag. On the left side of the card will appear the Square and Compasses and the words Compliments of America's Freemasons.
(Image below)
Anyone wishing to participate in this program may send a donation marked Operation Phone Home to:
                              The Masonic Service Association
                              8120 Fenton Street
                              Silver Spring, MD 20910-4785.
All of the monies received will go to this program and an accounting will be made by MSA at the end of each calendar year.
Or go to http://freemasonry.org and follow the links.

Thank you very much for your help!
