Trestleboard Messages for April 2006

From the East

Brethren & Ladies,
Can you believe that we are already in month number three of this Masonic Year. The month of March was another successful one. I congratulate Brother Dennis Emeterio II, on being raised to the sublime degree of Master Mason last month. I also thank everybody who came out to support Wor. Dick Carter on his 90th Birthday Celebration. Burbank Lodge is so fortunate to consider a man like Dick Carter one of its members!
This month, is also going to be a great one. As a Mason, one of the aspects of Masonry that I really enjoy is participating in community events. In the month of April, we have two community events scheduled. Our Senior Deacon, Brother Jeff Yates, has been working very diligently to prepare our Public Schools Night on the 13th. The public school system is the foundation of our countryþs greatness. So please, come see what the public schools in the City of Burbank have to offer!
Saturday, April 22 will be the City of Burbank’s annual Burbank on Parade. Come support the city and the Family of Freemasonry as we will be walking in the parade. After the parade, come join us for a free BBQ in Olive Park hosted along with Magnolia Park 618 and the Burbank Shrine Club. Outside of these two community events, we will be having our monthly Stated Meeting dinner followed by the Ladies Event on April 6th. Like last month, The ladies will eat for free at this dinner. So please, come one, come all and bring your family, friends and neighbors! But as always, please call our Secretary and make a reservation!
Please plan ahead and book your reservation for two upcoming events later in the year. First, on June 23-25, we will be having a bus trip to Laughlin, Nevada. The price is $135.00 per person (double occupancy) and includes the bus trip up there and back, a two night stay, and a dinner buffet ticket. The next event is our Ensenada, Mexico cruise on November 3-6. The price for this cruise is $399.71 per person (double occupancy) for an ocean view room. Reservations are to be made with Denise Weed at AAA Travel Agency at (818) 615-2253. The deposit for this event is $200.00 per cabin and due payable to Burbank Masonic Lodge within 10 days after booking your reservation. We are currently taking deposits for both of these events, and they are both first come, first serve. So take action now and reserve your spots! There are flyers available for both of the events at the lodge.

Child Identification

Each year approximately 725,000 children are reported missing in the United States. The Kids ID program gives parents the peace of mind that they are prepared for the unthinkable.
As a resource to California parents, the Masons of California provides free fingerprinting and photo identification for children of all ages. The identification sheet provided to parents also includes space to record height, weight, eye and hair color, and distinguishing marks. The identification sheet is extremely valuable to authorities if a child is ever missing or abducted.
The entire process takes only a minute and no information is ever recorded on the computer equipment.
Since the program began in 1998, more than 300,000 California children have received this important documentation.
California lodges provide this free service in Kids ID booths at fairs and other community events across the state.
As Senior Warden of our lodge it is my responsibility to over see this program. I will be setting a few dates in late spring for our lodge to provide the Child ID program. If you would be interested in helping at an event please contact me. I would appreciate all the help I can get.

Fraternally,
John T. Brennan,
Senior Warden

OPERATION PHONE HOME

Operation Phone Home is a campaign designed with the goal of providing prepaid international phone calling cards to as many military men and women serving overseas as can be reached. It will be an ongoing effort as long as American Military Personnel serve overseas, particularly in Iraq, Afghanistan, and the Balkans.
The Masonic Service Association, on behalf of the Masonic fraternity, has entered into an agreement with the USO to participate in this program. MSA has met all of the requirements necessary to have a web site presence and a link to the USO web page and to have a Masonic Logo on the phone card. The card will include the logo of the USO, the participating phone company (AT&T), and the American Flag. On the left side of the card will appear the Square and Compasses and the words Compliments of America's Freemasons.

Anyone wishing to participate in this program may send a donation marked Operation Phone Home to:
                              The Masonic Service Association
                              8120 Fenton Street
                              Silver Spring, MD 20910-4785.
All of the monies received will go to this program and an accounting will be made by MSA at the end of each calendar year.

Thank you very much for your help!
