Trestleboard Messages for July & August 2006

From the East

Brethren & Ladies,
      When did summer get here?
First and foremost, I wish the United States of America a very Happy Birthday! This month, our great nation celebrates its 230th Birthday. Not only am I proud to be an American, The 4th of July is one of my favorite holidays. Please come celebrate this festive day with us for dinner and fireworks at the Lodge on Tuesday, July 4th. Also, for your information, this Trestleboard will be for both July and August.
I personally congratulate Brother John Voors, our newest Entered Apprentice Mason, who joined our Lodge last month. We look forward to seeing him progress through the next two degrees quickly. Thanks again to Worshipful Andy DeCaro, and especially his wife Gayle, for the wonderful wine and cheese tasting last month at the woman's event. What a great night! Thanks to everybody who supported our events last month.
July is another busy month. As always. Stated Meeting Night will start off by another great dinner prepared by our talented Junior Warden. We will be having two Third Degrees, as well as completing our final qualification at the end of the month. Brethren, please come out to support Brother Kory Kupiszewski, and Brother Steve Drinkwater as they will both be raised to the sublime degree of Master Mason this month.
In August, although typically a dark month, we will be having a couple of social events. On the night of the August 3rd Stated Meeting, we will be having our annual Lodge picnic at the torch in McCambridge Park. We will be dressing on the casual side that evening, and I would like to encourage everybody to wear their Hawaiian Shirts. (Gentleman, please leave your grass skirts at home!) On August 26, we will be having a Deep Sea Fishing Trip. At the end of the month, on August 31 which is the fifth Thursday of the month, we will be having another Social Night. We will not be serving dinner this evening, but we will be having entertainment and an ice cream social. Please beat the heat and join us at the Lodge for a cool night in!
On a serious note, I would like to reemphasize one thing. Starting with the Stated Meeting dinner in July, reservations are a must! If you have not made a reservation, there will be no dinner foryou. Please call the Secretary by the Monday prior to the Stated Meeting AT LATEST to make your reservation. This also goes for officers and their wives. If you leave a message, the Secretary will call you back to confirm that he got your message. If he does not call back to confirm, please recall him. There will also be a sign up sheet at all tiled meetings and practices prior to these dinners too.
Please keep your eyes peeled for upcoming events starting in September. We will be having a Mystery Trip, Degree Trip, and other social events to attend.
Trivia Question: Does anybody know how the English Law Enforcement Officers came to be called "Bobbies?" If you are curious, ask me and I can tell you the answer! (I couldn't help but think of England around Independence Day!) Have a safe holiday in July, and I look forward to seeing you all around this summer!

Fraternally,

From the West

Brethren!
Susan and I hope everyone is having happy and joyous summer. For all of you who are traveling, be safe and enjoy your time away from home. If you are staying local we hope to see you at the Lodge for our upcoming events.
Susan and I will be busy over the next two months, while we are preparing for our first child. We are anticipating the arrival of our daughter Brianna Rose Brennan in late August. We appreciate all the love and support given to us from our Masonic family during this exciting time.
The Officers are awaiting their third and final qualification in late July, after which a month of silence in August.
Fraternally,
John T. Brennan,
Senior Warden

From the South

Brethren:
      Summer is officially here!
With that I hope everyone had a wonderful Father's Day.
Since we are entering the hottest months of the year, I thought I would keep this month's dinner light and cool! July's theme is "build your own sandwich" and there will be a variety of salads as well. For dessert, nothing better then the classic Strawberry Shortcake. Sorry for those of you who were looking forward to fish, however, this cook's keeping it cool. Therefore, no fish will be offered this month. The cost for July's dinner is only $10.00 for the men and of course, there is no charge for the women. Please RVSP no later than Monday, July 3, 2006. Due to the 4th of July Holiday, it is imperative that the reservations are made by that date. I want to thank everyone in advance for doing so! As tradition goes, August is dark for the Lodge except for the August 6th Stated Meeting. As always, the annual picnic will be held at McCambridge Park beginning at 6:00 p.m. There will be no charge for this dinner, and of course, no fish will be served either.
I take this opportunity to wish everyone a Happy 4th of July and I look forward to seeing everyone at the dinners. Fraternally,
Fraternally,
Marc S. Canterbury
Junior Warden

From the Secretary's Desk

Brethren:
The following amendment will be considered at the July Stated Meeting. Please attend the meeting to vote on this important by-law revision.

BURBANK MASONIC LODGE NO, 406 F&AM

A STANDING RESOLUTION FOR AN AMENDMENT

THE STARTING TIME FOR STATED MEETINGS
FROM 8:00 OM TO 7:30 PM
ARTICLE III MEETINGS OF THE LODGE

Section 1. The Stated Meetings of this Lodge shall be held on the First Thursday in each month, at 7:30 o'clock P.M. except as follows. In any month when the regular meeting date shall fall on New Years Day, (January 1) or Independence Day (July 4), legal holidays, or during the Annual Communication of Grand Lodge, the Stated Meeting shall be held on the Second Thursday of that month, at 7:30 o'clock P.M.
If. due to a religious observance, this Lodge shall, by a majority vote of the Lodge at a Stated Meeting, held either in the second or third month immediately preceding the month in which such re1igious observance occurs, change the meeting date, in the manner provided for elsewhere in this Code, such change of meeting date need not be approved by Grand Lodge or the Grand Master. Notice thereof shall be given to the Grand Master and the members of the Lodge not less than three weeks before the meeting date fixed in the By-Laws.

END OF AMENDMENT

Dues notices were again sent to all Brethren who have not paid their dues for 2005 and prior years. It is unfortunate that if you have not paid your delinquent dues for the prior years, it is the duty of the Lodge to suspend those Brethren who have not kept their dues current. Please remit your dues to avoid being suspended for non-payment of dues.

Fraternally,
Norm Furman, Secretary

A Message From the Master’s Lady

Hello Friends, Hello Friends,
Ladies...ladies...ladies, if you missed last mouths ladies event.. .well, you missed a good one. Our very own Gayle DeCaro did a wonderful job leading us all through the wine and cheese tasting. She explained to us how to pair cheese with wine, how you pair different fruits with certain cheeses, and how easy it is to put together a simple cheese plate for an appetizer. It was a very informative night full of great wine, lovely cheeses and wonderful company.
I would like to invite all ladies to come to the Burbank Masonic Center on July 6th for our stated meeting/ dinner. Burbank Lodge 406 has had the ladies be their guest at all the dinners for the last 7 months. Thank You for always making us feel so welcome. I want to remind you that it is a REQU1RMENT, for any one who would like to have dinner before the stated meeting MUST make a reservation with the Secretary Norm Furman at (818) 848-3750.
Things are a little different this month, in that I will be letting you know about July and August Ladies events in this article because we will not be getting a Trestleboard in the month of August. First, for the July 6th ladies event, we will be doing a Patriotic craft in honor of the 4th of July. The cost for this ladies event will be $3.00. Like always, I would like to make sure that there will be enough supplies for all to participate, so please let me know if you plan to attend the demonstration.
Second, for August we traditionally meet down at Me Cambridge Park and have a family picnic. Afterwards, the men go back to the Masonic Center to conduct their stated meeting. Well, I thought it would be fun to leave from the park and go straight over to see a movie at the AMC theaters. I will be buying the tickets for the movie early, so I will need to know if you are planning to go to the movies by August 1st and before 12:00 noon. I will let you all know what movie we will be seeing and time when it gets closer to the date.

      Love Always,
      Kelly Barnes, Worshipful Master’s Lady

OPERATION PHONE HOME

Operation Phone Home is a campaign designed with the goal of providing prepaid international phone calling cards to as many military men and women serving overseas as can be reached. It will be an ongoing effort as long as American Military Personnel serve overseas, particularly in Iraq, Afghanistan, and the Balkans.
The Masonic Service Association, on behalf of the Masonic fraternity, has entered into an agreement with the USO to participate in this program. MSA has met all of the requirements necessary to have a web site presence and a link to the USO web page and to have a Masonic Logo on the phone card. The card will include the logo of the USO, the participating phone company (AT&T), and the American Flag. On the left side of the card will appear the Square and Compasses and the words Compliments of America's Freemasons.
(Image below)
Anyone wishing to participate in this program may send a donation marked Operation Phone Home to:
                              The Masonic Service Association
                              8120 Fenton Street
                              Silver Spring, MD 20910-4785.
All of the monies received will go to this program and an accounting will be made by MSA at the end of each calendar year.
Or go to http://freemasonry.org and follow the links.

Thank you very much for your help!
