Trestleboard Messages for October 2006

From the East

Brethren & Ladies,
Well now that September is over, what a busy month. We performed five degrees! Congratulations to all of the newly initiated Entered Apprentice Masons and to all of the newly passed Fellowcraft Masons!
I would also like to congratulate the Lodge Officers who stepped up and put on such wonderful degrees. Great Job Guys!
Not only is the month of October upon us, it also marks the beginning of the last trimester of the 2006 Masonic year. I cannot believe how fast the last eight months have passed by. This is a great example of the famous quote, 'Time flies when you are having fun!"
As always. October will be a very exciting month. The month will start off with the Stated Meeting preceded by another wonderful kitchen creation by our Junior Warden. The theme for this month's meal will be "Oktoberfest." Please don't forget, this is the first month that we will be holding our Stated -Meetings with a start time of 7:30 PM and not 8:00 PM. Please make a note of it.
The following week will be our 2006 Annual Communication at Grand Lodge. Also at Grand Lodge, Steve Jordan will receive the Legion of Honor and our very own Worshipfu Chris Barries will receive the Honorary Legion of Honor, which is the highest award that an advisor can receive from the Order of DeMolay. The award is given to an individual for years of leadership and service, and is similar to receiving the Hiram Award in Masonry. Is it a surprise that Worshipful Chris Barnes has been awarded both? Congratulations Dad!
On Thursday the 12th of October, we will be doing our third and final qualification for next year's officer's line. Congratulations guys! On October 19th, we will be having a First Degree for Mr. Jeremy Spurley, who will be making the transition from DeMolay to the wonderful world of Masonry. See what happens when we support our youth groups!
And finally, at the end of the month, we will have the pleasure of watching a third degree performed by our elite group of Past Masters. There will be a steak dinner prior to the degree as alw ays, so all Master Mason please make your reservations.
This evening will also be a very special evening. The night is dedicated to our late Brother Joe Larsson. His grandson, Brother Quade Yoo Song French, will be the candidate being raised to the sublime degree of Master Mason. Please come support this special event!
P.S. Happy Birthday to my Lovely Lady on the 7th!
"We make a living by what we get, we make a life by what we give."
             -Brother Sir Winston Churchill (1874-1965)

Fraternally,
Kenneth L. Bames
Worshipful Master

From the West

Brethren!
October 7th through October 11th is Grand Lodge. I will be attending our annual communication and representing Burbank Lodge along with our Secretary Norm Furman. I am looking forward to the sessions, debates, and all of the Fellowship with many different Brothers from all over the State of California.
As we start the fourth quarter of our Masonic year, I will begin finalizing all of my plans and calendar for the next Masonic year. I ask any Brother of Burbank Lodge or any person who associates with Burbank Lodge, if there are any suggestions or recommendations for the next year. I am happy to hear all requests, whether they create change, spend money, or are out of the ordinary. I will take all suggestions into consideration and see how I can implement them with my plans.
My wife and I have had our hands full with our baby Brianna Rose. Parenthood is fun, but very tiring. We would like to thank all of our Masonic family who have thought of us during this time.
      Brianna Rose Brennan was born August 25th, 2006 - 11:52 PM. 21 Inches, 7 Pounds, 6 Ounces.

Fraternally,
John T. Brennan
Senior Warden

From the South

Brethren:
Fall has arrived, the leaves have been changing colors, and a chill is in the air. Well maybe, but then again for those who reside in Southern California never see leaves turning in September or October, but sometimes in January!
However, my wife and I saw the beautiful seasonal changes on our recent trip to Alaska. For those of you who have never been, we highly recommend it, and for those who have, I am sure they will agree it is one of the most spectacular places to go! This was our first trip there and without a doubt, we would both like to go back someday!
Since October is the celebration of Oktoberfest, this month's dinner will be German Cuisine. Those who wish to have fish it will be available again this month. I'm thinking along the lines of Apple Strudel for dessert, yummy!!!. Please feel free to extend an invitation to your neighbor or family, as all are welcome for dinner and can join the lady's group after dinner. Just remember to include them in your reservations!
Speaking of reservations, I am implementing a change this month for the people who request fish. To avoid confusion and fish being served to people without reservations, tickets will be given to those who have ordered fish when you pay for dinner. Those people who have a ticket will be guaranteed fish for their dinner, and people who wish to have fish without a reservation, will be given fish on a first come basis. If there is no fish left, then the dinner of the month will be available to you. So please make your reservations by Tuesday, October 3, 2006. Cost of dinner will be $10.00 for the men, and of course, ladies eat free.

Fraternally,
Marc S. Canterbury,
Junior Warden

A Message From the Master's Lady

Hello Friends,

Well, it's October and do you know what that means... it's my birthday month! Hahahahaha!
No silly...it will soon be Halloween. What costume will you be wearing to the stated meeting? A "HUGE"... Thank You, to all the ladies that came out and participated in making blankets for the children of the Shrine Hospital. Momma Judy, you are always there to lend a helping hand. Thank you for always helping others, the blankets turned out great. It was an easy project for all who were there, even a couple people took blankets home to make them and return them for distribution.
I invite all the ladies to come to the Burbank Masonic Center on October 5th for our stated meeting/dinner. Burbank Lodge 406 has changed the time of their stated meetings to 7:30 p.m., so our ladies event will be starting at 7:30p.m. instead of 8:00 p.m. I want to remind you that reservations are mandatory for anyone who would like to have dinner before the stated meeting. You MUST make a reservation with the Secretary Norm Furman at (818) 848-3750 prior to the meeting.
The ladies event for this month will be a cooking presentation. Come sit back and relax as we are taught how to cook up a few new recipes. I look forward to be seeing you at our event. Love Always,
      Kelly Barnes, Worshipful Master’s Lady
P.S. Safe traveling for all who are going to Grand Lodge this year.

OPERATION PHONE HOME

Operation Phone Home is a campaign designed with the goal of providing prepaid international phone calling cards to as many military men and women serving overseas as can be reached. It will be an ongoing effort as long as American Military Personnel serve overseas, particularly in Iraq, Afghanistan, and the Balkans.
The Masonic Service Association, on behalf of the Masonic fraternity, has entered into an agreement with the USO to participate in this program. MSA has met all of the requirements necessary to have a web site presence and a link to the USO web page and to have a Masonic Logo on the phone card. The card will include the logo of the USO, the participating phone company (AT&T), and the American Flag. On the left side of the card will appear the Square and Compasses and the words Compliments of America's Freemasons.
(Image below)
Anyone wishing to participate in this program may send a donation marked Operation Phone Home to:
                              The Masonic Service Association
                              8120 Fenton Street
                              Silver Spring, MD 20910-4785.
All of the monies received will go to this program and an accounting will be made by MSA at the end of each calendar year.
Or go to http://freemasonry.org and follow the links.

Thank you very much for our help!
