Trestleboard Messages for December 2006

From the East

Brethren & Ladies,
      Wow. where did 2006 go?
I can't believe that it is already December! Well, in reflecting back to the month of November, I congratulate Brother Jake Sizemore who is our newest Entered Apprentice Mason, and Brother Chad Knowles who became our newest Master Mason when he was raised to the Sublime Degree of Master Mason. Congratulation to both of you!
I also hope that everybody had a wonderful Thanksgiving Holiday and had a chance to ponder about the many things that we all have to be thankful for.
We have a low key. but very exciting month ahead of us in December. As always, the month will start with our Stated Meeting, preceded by our usual first class dinner created by our trusty Junior Warden. While the men fall into their meeting, the ladies will have an extra special Ladies Event. Please read Kelly's article for more details.
The next highlight of the month will be when Burbank Lodge honors our very own, Worshipful Norman A. Furman, Past Master, with The Hiram Award on December 14. With almost 40 years of service to the Masonic Blue Lodge, he is truly deserving. Congratulations Worshipful Furman!
The last event of the month will be our Christmas Party on December 21. It will be a fun evening with some tasty appetizers and delicious desserts. There will be fun, fellowship, and a chance to enjoy a festive Holiday Evening. The admission will be a gift for the children at the Shrine Hospital (Minimum $10.00 for each person). The best part of the evening will be the fact that we will be providing a young child with a better Holiday! Please make plans to join us in our social month.
On a persona] note, I would like to thank everybody for their support, understanding, and confidence in me in regards to my job.
"Go through your phone book. call people and ask them to drive you to the airport. The ones who will drive you are your true friends. The rest aren't bad people; they're just acquaintances. Jay Leno (1950)
Fraternally,
Kenneth L. Barnes,
Worshipful Master

From the West

Brethren!
      Happy December to all!!
Congratulations to Brothers Jeff Yates and Marc Canterbury on their election to Junior and Senior Wardens for the next Masonic year. 1 would also like to thank the Brethren for my election as Worshipful Master for the next Masonic year. I look forward to the opportunity, as well as the challenge to lead Burbank Lodge throughout 2007.
My main goal and objective for our 2007 Masonic year will be to build our membership from within our own lodge. I hope to achieve my goal by making Masonry Fun for all!! As we start to think about next year, we must think about the successful year that Worshipful Ken Barnes has had. With the continuation of traditional events, the revitalization of the Ladies Events and Stated Meeting dinners this year has been a success for Burbank lodge. I would like to thank Ken and Kelly for all of their hard work and the dedication that they have shown this year. 1 hope to be able to continue their success throughout the next year.
Susan, Brianna, and I would like to wish all our Masonic families a Happy Holidays, a very Merry Christmas, and a Happy New Year!
Fraternally,
John T. Brennan,
Senior Warden

A Message From the Master’s Lady

Hello Friends, Hello Friends,
      Hello Friends,
We had 17 ladies in the month of October and in the month of November; it was the biggest turn-out yet...22 ladies! A special 'Thanks' to Judy Barnes for helping us once again for making our beautiful fall wreaths. I appreciate all her hard work and dedication to our program. All the ladies had a great time sitting around being crafty and having fun with good company. Thank you all for coming out and supporting our ladies program.
I invite all ladies to come to the Burbank Masonic Center on December 7th for our stated meeting and dinner. Remember Burbank Lodge 406 has changed the time of their stated meetings to 7:30 P.M. Our ladies event will be starting at 7:30 P.M. 1 want to remind you that reservations are mandatory for anyone who would like to have dinner before the stated meeting. You must make reservations by Monday December 4th with Norm Furman, Secretary at (818) 848-3750.
I have decided to put a little twist on the evening. I would like to do a cookie exchange too. So, I'm CALLING ALL LADIES! Please come to the stated meeting with 2 dozen cookies. 1 want to see your favorite homemade cookies. Use your favorite recipe and show off your favorite holiday cookie. Please come with your recipe printed on some cards for others to take home and add to their recipe box. I think this will be a fun way for all of us to see the variety of different kinds of cookies we all enjoy.
In addition to the cookie exchange we will also be doing a holiday wreath, they say the 3rd time is a charm! During the conclusion of the last ladies event, a lot of the ladies mentioned they would like to do another wreath for the holiday season. So with a unanimous vote. the ladies and I had decided to have Judy Barnes come back and make a holiday wreath. Again, the cost will stay the same as before at $5.00 per wreath, which will cover all supplies it will take to make this project. If you plan on making the project please come with a Phillips screwdriver. To make sure there will be enough supplies for all to participate, please let me know if you plan to make a wreath.
Also, I hope to see you all on Thursday, December 21st for our Annual Holiday Party at the Masonic Center. It is a nice night to sit and chat, enjoy the season and remember all the things that we are thankful for.
In closing, if you were not at the last Stated Meeting you might have not heard the news... well... Dillon is going to be a BIG brother in June 2007. Yes. Ken and I are expecting our second child next year. We are very excited to be having another bundle of joy coming into our life.

      Love Always,
      Kelly Barnes, Worshipful Master’s Lady
P.S. I hope Santa brings you all that you wish for this Holiday Season. Remember to hug the ones you LOVE, and remember the men and women who are serving our country this holiday season and who can't be there to hug the ones they love.

OPERATION PHONE HOME

Operation Phone Home is a campaign designed with the goal of providing prepaid international phone calling cards to as many military men and women serving overseas as can be reached. It will be an ongoing effort as long as American Military Personnel serve overseas, particularly in Iraq, Afghanistan, and the Balkans.
The Masonic Service Association, on behalf of the Masonic fraternity, has entered into an agreement with the USO to participate in this program. MSA has met all of the requirements necessary to have a web site presence and a link to the USO web page and to have a Masonic Logo on the phone card. The card will include the logo of the USO, the participating phone company (AT&T), and the American Flag. On the left side of the card will appear the Square and Compasses and the words Compliments of America's Freemasons.
(Image below)
Anyone wishing to participate in this program may send a donation marked Operation Phone Home to:
                              The Masonic Service Association
                              8120 Fenton Street
                              Silver Spring, MD 20910-4785.
All of the monies received will go to this program and an accounting will be made by MSA at the end of each calendar year.
Or go to http://freemasonry.org and follow the links.

Thank you very much for our help!
