Brethren!
I congratulate Worshipful John Brennan and all the new officers. It was a wonderful installation.
After talking with our new Master, we have a big year ahead of us. There will be lot of fun events that will keep all of us officers busy! The month of February will be started off with a Super Bowl Party at the lodge followed by the annual Sweetheart's Dinner. Our newly installed Junior Warden, Jeff Yates, will be very busy; I know he will do a great job this year! Check the Trestleboard for the dates and times of these events.
Also I would to congratulate Brother Wayne Butts who has been passed to the degree of Fellowcraft, and to Brothers Jeremy Chango and Joshua Cannon, who have become the newest Entered Apprentices.
I look forward to serving as your Senior Warden. If you have any questions or concerns, or if there is anything I can do for you, please let me know.
Fraternally,
Marc Canterbury,
Senior Warden

Brethren:
A wise man once told me, that no man should ever enter upon any great or important undertaking with out first invoking the blessing of God. Amen.
That being done, I thank Worshipful Dick Carter for nominating me to the office of Junior Warden. Dick, the nomination coming from you is a distinction I shall carry in my heart the rest of my life. And to the Brethren attending election night, who cast their vote of confidence for me. I will not disappoint you. It will be my duty and pleasure to serve you and fulfill my obligations as Junior Warden.
Also, congratulations to Senior Warden Mark Canterbury and his wife Laurie for their outstanding service in the kitchen last year. Believe me, it will be a pleasure to serve you for a change! By the way Marc, how do you turn on the stove? Where is the kitchen?
And of course, congratulations to Worshipful John Brennan and his wife Susan. Worshipful Brennan and I have a special year lined up for you. One of his goals this year is to attract back to the fold many of our long absent Brethren; (You know who you are!)
Hopefully the continuation of our delicious dinners, great service, gracious style and entertainment help in this endeavor.
Our first dinner will be held at the Stated Meeting, February 1st. Social hour begins at 6:00 PM and dinner at 6:30 PM. On the menu is steak, and for those not into beef, fish is available. When making reservations with the secretary, please specify your preference. As usual, $10.00 dollars for the men and free for the ladies.
On Sunday, February 4th Burbank Lodge is hosting its first annual Super Bowl Party. The festivities will begin at the Lodge at 2:00 PM. There will be plenty of food and snacks and the game will be broadcast on our cable ready big screen TV! This Super Bowl event will be free to all Masons and their families.
On Saturday, February 24th Burbank Lodge will be hosting its annual Sweethearts Ball. Featured will be dinner, music and entertainment. Social hour for the Sweethearts Ball will begin at 6:00 PM and dinner will be served at 7:00 PM. Gentlemen, your admission fee is $10.00 dollars. Ladies, you get in for the incredible low price of nothing! I hope to see you all there!
As I look forward to the new Masonic Year, I am reminded of the three principle rounds of Jacobs Ladder: FAITH, HOPE and CHARITY.
They admonish me to have:
FAITH in God. May he inspire you to make reservations. A reservation will assure you a dinner and avoid waste. Phone the Secretary at 818-848-3750 or contact me at home, 818-353-8378.
HOPE of immortality. While striving for this goal, please enjoy yourselves at lodge and come back again and again!
CHARITY for all Man kind. As you are enjoying the bounty and love offered in the Masonic community, always keep in mind and heart those less fortunate than you. In the final analysis, THE WELFARE OF HUMAN KIND IS A MASONS BUSINESS.
Fraternally,
Jeff Yates,
Junior Warden

Brethren:
There was a one hour interview on CNBC with Warren Buffet, the second richest man in the world, who has donated $31 billion to charity. Here are some very interesting aspects of his life;
1. He bought his first share at age 11 and he now regrets that he started too late!
2. He bought a small farm at age 14 with savings from delivering newspapers.
3. He still lives in the same small 3 bedroom house in mid-town Omaha, Nebraska that he bought after he got married 50 years ago. He says that he has everything he needs in that house. His house does not have a wall or a fence.
4. He drives his own car everywhere and does not have a driver or security people around him.
5. He never travels by private jet, although he owns the world's largest private jet company.
6. His company, Berkshire Hathaway, owns 63 companies. He writes only one letter each year to the CEOs of these companies, giving them goals for the year. He never holds meetings or calls them on a regular basis.
7. He has given his CEO's only two rules.
Rule No. 1: Do not lose any of your shareholder's money.
Rule No. 2: Do not forget rule No. 1.
8. He does not socialize with the high society crowd. His pastime after he gets home is to make himself some pop corn and watch television.
9. Bill Gates, the world's richest man met him for the first time only 5 years ago. Bill Gates did not think he had anything in common with Warren Buffet. So he had scheduled his meeting only for half hour. But when Gates met him, the meeting lasted for ten hours and Bill Gates became a devotee of Warren Buffet.
10. Warren Buffet does not carry a cell phone, nor has a computer on his desk.
11. His advice to young people: Stay away from credit cards and invest in yourself.

An amazing individual indeed!
As one can see, there are many steps and it all starts with the first one!
Dues are past due and still $64.00.

OPERATION PHONE HOME
Operation Phone Home is a campaign designed with the goal of providing prepaid international phone calling cards to as many military men and women serving overseas as can be reached. It will be an ongoing effort as long as American Military Personnel serve overseas, particularly in Iraq, Afghanistan, and the Balkans.
The Masonic Service Association, on behalf of the Masonic fraternity, has entered into an agreement with the USO to participate in this program. MSA has met all of the requirements necessary to have a web site presence and a link to the USO web page and to have a Masonic Logo on the phone card. The card will include the logo of the USO, the participating phone company (AT&T), and the American Flag. On the left side of the card will appear the Square and
Compasses and the words Compliments of America's Freemasons. (Image below)
Anyone wishing to participate in this program may send a donation marked Operation Phone Home to:
The Masonic Service Association
8120 Fenton Street
Silver Spring, MD 20910-4785.
All of the monies received will go to this program and an accounting will be made by MSA at the end of each calendar year.
Or go to http://freemasonry.org and follow the links.
Thank you very much for our help!
