Trestleboard Messages for March 2007

From the East

Brethren & Ladies,
Wow, Burbank Lodge is off to a great start! Since the Installation, we have had three degrees, a Super Bowl Party, Sweetheart’s Ball, and a gourmet Stated Meeting dinner. All of these events have been well attended and many have enjoyed the fellowship, good food, and fun. If you have enjoyed the first month you will surely look forward to our future events.
We will be having an excellent St. Patrick’s Day theme dinner prior to our Stated Meeting on March 1st. With a little luck of the Irish we might have some green beer or punch with dinner for those who wish to be festive. Don’t forget that our stated meeting dress code is Business Casual, which means you do not need to wear a coat and tie to the meeting if you do not wish to. The Ladies will be learning how to play “Texas Hold’em” in the Dining hall, so remember to invite your wives or ladies to dinner and stay for some fun.
My plans are to schedule only one degree each month when possible, so that I may request that all of the Brethren who live local to the Lodge make a sincere effort to be present for the degrees. I wish for our attendance to double at our degrees, which is completely possible if the Brethren accept my request. Basically for the general members there are going to be three events each month that you should plan on attending. The first Thursday is our stated meeting, generally the third Thursday will be a Degree night, and there will be a fun fellowship night once a month. This keeps it simple and fun for all!
March 15th we will be having a Second Degree for Brothers Jacob Sizemore, and Jeremy Changco. As stated above, your attendance is especially requested.
March 29th we will be having a “Family Night”. This is open for all of our Masonic Families. I encourage you to bring your family and invite a friend that might be interested in Masonry. We will have “Food & Entertainment” provided by our Junior Warden Jeff Yates.
Lastly, I thank our Junior Warden Jeff Yates and his family for the great food we have already received. Keep up the good work!
Fraternally,
John T. Brennan,
Worshipful Master

From the West

Brethren!
A well-known speaker started off his seminar by holding up a $20.00 bill. In the room of 200, he asked, "Who would like this $20 bill?" Hands started going up. He said, "I am going to give this $20 to one of you but first, let me do this.
He proceeded to crumple up the $20 dollar bill. He then asked, "Who still wants it?" Still the hands were up in the air. Well, he replied, "What if I do this?" He dropped it on the ground and started to grind it into the floor with his shoe. He picked it up, now crumpled and dirty. "Now, who still wants it?" Still the hands went into the air. My friends, we have all learned a very valuable lesson. No matter what I did to the money, you still wanted it because it did not decrease in value. It was still worth $20.
Many times in our lives, we are dropped, crumpled, and ground into the dirt by the decisions we make and the circumstances that come our way. We feel as though we are worthless. But no matter what has happened or what will happen, you will never lose your value. Dirty or clean, crumpled or finely creased, you are still priceless to those who DO LOVE you. The worth of our lives comes not in what we do or who we know, but by WHO WE ARE.
You are special- Don't EVER forget it." And, remember: amateurs built the ark. Professionals built the Titanic.
If God brings you to it - He will bring you through it. (Copied)

From the South

Brethren:
February was a very successful month. Our Stated Meeting Dinner, Super Bowl Party and Sweethearts Ball were a great success. It’s especially gratifying to see many of our advancing Candidates taking part and helping with the work. These fledgling Masons are quickly becoming an integral and accepted part of the Masonic community. They have taken to heart the concept that service and hard work lays the foundation upon which true achievement, great character and personal contentment is built.
At the March Stated Meeting Dinner, in honor of Saint Patrick’s Day we will be serving classic Corn Beef and Cabbage. This particular evening is a MUST ATTEND for we are featuring a guest chef, Brother Hank Williams. Brother Williams is a self proclaimed Corn Beef and Cabbage specialist and has offered to share with us his time honored family recipe. Offered as an alternative will be my not so timed honored Pesto chicken.
Make your reservations, join us and enjoy Brother Williams Corn Beef Dinner.
The Stated Meeting Dinner will be Thursday, March 1st. Social time starts at 6:00 PM. Dinner served at 6:30 PM. The cost is $10.00 dollars at the door and free for the Ladies.
Worshipful Brennan is hosting a Family Night on Thursday, March 29th. At 6:30 PM. $ 5.00 dollars for men, free for the rest. Bring the Family for a light dinner, fun and entertainment.
In the first month of my term as Junior Warden, I received an over abundance of support. Brothers of all ages and many of their family members have freely given me help in the kitchen. Your devotion to Brotherly Love and Relief, reaffirms my belief that Masonry brings out the best in all men and those around him.
Or maybe, you are all afraid that if left to my own devices I may burn the kitchen down. What ever the reason, thank you!
Fraternally,
Jeffrey W. Yates,
Junior Warden

A Message From the Master's Lady

Hello Ladies,
Last month we had a GREAT turn out of over 25 ladies to our stated meeting dinner and ladies event. I hope you all had a fun time making your necklaces and enjoying each others company. It was also wonderful to see everyone with their sweetheart at our annual sweetheart’s dinner. I will have your sweetheart photos available at our March stated meeting.
This month we will be learning today’s most popular poker game, Texas Hold’Em. Why let the boys have all the fun? You can join them on their poker nights, or even better have one of your own! It’s a fun game and easy to learn. There will be no money required to play, just remember to bring your poker face! Hope to see you all there!
       Love,
       Susan Brennan, Worshipful Master’s Lady

OPERATION PHONE HOME

Operation Phone Home is a campaign designed with the goal of providing prepaid international phone calling cards to as many military men and women serving overseas as can be reached. It will be an ongoing effort as long as American Military Personnel serve overseas, particularly in Iraq, Afghanistan, and the Balkans.
The Masonic Service Association, on behalf of the Masonic fraternity, has entered into an agreement with the USO to participate in this program. MSA has met all of the requirements necessary to have a web site presence and a link to the USO web page and to have a Masonic Logo on the phone card. The card will include the logo of the USO, the participating phone company (AT&T), and the American Flag. On the left side of the card will appear the Square and Compasses and the words Compliments of America's Freemasons.
(Image below)
Anyone wishing to participate in this program may send a donation marked Operation Phone Home to:
                              The Masonic Service Association
                              8120 Fenton Street
                              Silver Spring, MD 20910-4785.
All of the monies received will go to this program and an accounting will be made by MSA at the end of each calendar year.
Or go to http://freemasonry.org and follow the links.

Thank you very much for our help!
