Trestleboard Messages for APRIL 2007

From the East

Brethren & Ladies,
April is here and it is time for the “Prom”. This will be one of our featured events this year and I would like to see everyone there. April 21st, Burbank Lodge will have our very own Prom. This will be a Dinner & Dancing evening for all. We have spared no expense for this event. We will have an excellent Steak and Lobster dinner and listen to great music from a five piece Live Band. Fish Dinners will be available upon request only prior to the event. Tickets are on sale now and we strongly suggest and appreciate everyone to purchase their tickets soon. The cost for the event will be $50.00 per couple and $30.00 per single if you purchase your tickets prior to the April 19th. All tickets at the door will be $35.00 per person. Gentlemen don’t forget to buy your lady a corsage.
We will have a Third Degree on April 19th for brother Wayne Butts. There will be a steak dinner prior to the degree. Please show Brother Wayne your support by attending his third degree. Public schools night and Burbank on Parade will also be this month. All members are welcome to walk in the parade; I hope to have all of the details at the stated meeting. We will have a BBQ after the parade at George Izay Park, which is at the end of the parade route.
Susan & I enjoy working with the officers to create fun and enjoyable events for all. We look forward to seeing many of you at the Prom and the other events to come.
Fraternally,
John T. Brennan,
Worshipful Master

From the West

Brethren!
We have good news and bad news! The good news is that ¼ of our Masonic year is over and it has been a great success. Stated Meeting attendance is up and we have had some great degrees. The bad news, April 15th, taxes are due. Someone once wrote, the only things that are certain in life are change, death, and taxes.
Last month, I had the honor of passing Brothers Jeremy Chongco and Joshua Cannon to the degree of Fellowcraft. I thank Worshipful Brennan for allowing me to sit in the East. It is truly an honor to do this. In the past I have had the privilege to sit in the East in preparing myself to become master next year, if elected.
I thank the members of the lodge last month for voting to send Laurie and I to the Senior Warden’s Retreat. These retreats are very important for both the Junior and Senior Warden’s to attend, as they provide valuable information to run the lodge.
At this time the Child ID program has not gotten off the ground, as there have been no events this year where these services are required. As the summer approaches, I expect that events will unfold.
Lastly, I would like to offer my deepest sympathies to Worshipful Vern Ross, Past Master of Magnolia Park 618, and Worshipful Chris Barnes, Past Master of Burbank 406 and his wife Judy, on the loss of their beloved wife and mother. I have known Juanita Ross for many, many years, and she could always bring a smile upon everyone’s faces with her witty remarks and sense of humor. She will be surely missed.
I am looking forward to seeing everyone in April. Please let me know if there is anything I can do for you, don’t hesitate to call me.

From the South

Brethren:
April promises to be a spectacular month for Burbank Lodge. The Stated Meeting on Thursday, April 5th will feature Prime Rib and an alternative selection a fresh mystery fish, caught that day at Costco’s. Appetizers will be ready for you on the counter when you walk in at 6:00 p.m. The dinner bell rings at 6:30 p.m. Men, remember, $10.00 dollars and a reservation gets you and your Lady in.
Saturday, April 21st, Worshipful John Brennan and his First Lady, Susan is hosting “Prom Night!” at the Burbank Masonic Center. This posh squeal to Prom Nights past will feature live entertainment, dancing, plenty of refreshments and STEAK AND LOBSTER! Also, a King and Queen of the Prom will be elected before the end of the evening. The Prom starts at 6:30 p.m. and ends 11:00 p.m. The cost of admission is $ 50.00 dollars per couple and $ 30.00 dollars for a single person. Admission cost for those who show up at the door with out a reservation is $ 35.00 dollars. Tickets are on sale through the Master and Junior Warden. Dress attire should be formal, and guys don’t forget the corsage for your date. Mom and Dad won’t be around this time around to supervise. (Or pay for it, for that matter.) I was the picture of class at my Prom, back in ‘76. I wore a canary yellow, polyester tuxedo with white dress shoes. I looked like a six foot tall banana split with long side burns. “Save a dance for me baby!”
At the March Stated Meeting Dinner, I had the pleasure of working in the kitchen with Brother Hank Williams and his wonderful family. As I’m sure you remember, Bro. Williams prepared a delicious Corn Beef and Cabbage dish. Beginning at 12:30 in the afternoon, Hank worked for hours preparing his magnificent pre- St. Patrick’s day dinner. The meal was appreciated by all. Brother Williams has been a Mason for over 50 years, yet he worked in the kitchen that night like a renewed Mason on a mission. “Thanks Hank.”
Chronological age has little meaning in the Fraternity of Free and Accepted Masons. All men travel on the same level of time. From the moment he is raised a Master Mason to the day he leaves us for the Lodge on High, he is a Brother, an equal, relevant and loved.
Fraternally,
Jeffrey W. Yates,
Junior Warden

From the Secretary's Desk

Brethren:
We have entered into the Second quarter of the Masonic Year and and I have not received dues from some of the Brethren. Hopefully, you will remit your dues (only $64.00) in the remittance envelope previously sent at the end of 2006 and forward to the Lodge.
Check your dues receipt and verify if your dues are current. If not current, remit your dues for 2007 along with any dues past due for prior years.
Pursuant to the By-Laws of the Lodge and Section 19040 Article IX, of the California Masonic Code, dues are payable in advance on or before the first day of January. It is the desire of the Lodge to remain solvent and retain the membership of all Brethren in the greatest Masonic Lodge in California.
The Brethren and Officers desire each and every Brother remain a current member of Burbank Lodge. The Brethren of the Lodge thank you for your consideration and ACTION.

Fraternally,
Norm Furman, Secretary

A Message From the Master's Lady

Hello Ladies,
This month I have something very special planned that I hope you will enjoy being a part of! Each year the Job’s Daughters’ of California choose to support a specific charity. This year they have chosen “Project Night Night”. It is a wonderful organization that provides “night night” packages of blankets, books, and stuffed animals to children in homeless shelters. It is estimated that there are 1.3 million children, 42% of whom are under the age of 6 years old that are homeless in America. I think it is wonderful that the Job’s Daughters’ are trying to make a difference, and I know that we would love to help them!
I invite you to our stated meeting dinner and to stay for this wonderful ladies event where we will be making blankets for these “night night” packages. The supplies for the blankets will be provided, however, I would ask that you bring a small stuffed animal (12” or less) and a children’s book to donate. They can be new or gently used. You are also welcome to bring more than one if you are able to. If you are not able to bring a stuffed animal and book, I would still love to have you there to make a blanket! If you would like to learn more about “Project Night Night” you can visit their web site at www.ProjectNightNight.org .
On another note, we have an AMAZING event coming up on April 21st that you won’t want to miss! It’s a Prom! Yes, that’s right, we are having a formal prom at the Lodge. We will have a wonderful dinner, a live band, prom photos and even a prom king and queen! Prom tickets will be for sale at the stated meeting, $50 per couple, $30 single. I can’t stress enough how great this night will be! Hope to see you there.
Love,
Susan Brennan, Worshipful Master’s Lady

OPERATION PHONE HOME

Operation Phone Home is a campaign designed with the goal of providing prepaid international phone calling cards to as many military men and women serving overseas as can be reached. It will be an ongoing effort as long as American Military Personnel serve overseas, particularly in Iraq, Afghanistan, and the Balkans.
The Masonic Service Association, on behalf of the Masonic fraternity, has entered into an agreement with the USO to participate in this program. MSA has met all of the requirements necessary to have a web site presence and a link to the USO web page and to have a Masonic Logo on the phone card. The card will include the logo of the USO, the participating phone company (AT&T), and the American Flag. On the left side of the card will appear the Square and Compasses and the words Compliments of America's Freemasons.
(Image below)
Anyone wishing to participate in this program may send a donation marked Operation Phone Home to:
                              The Masonic Service Association
                              8120 Fenton Street
                              Silver Spring, MD 20910-4785.
All of the monies received will go to this program and an accounting will be made by MSA at the end of each calendar year.
Or go to http://freemasonry.org and follow the links.

Thank you very much for our help!
