Brethren & Ladies,

Summer is Here!

Lodge shirts and Dockers are perfectly fine. No Shorts or T-Shirts please. All degrees will still be Coat & Tie. We will be ordering new lodge shirts over the next month, and taking reservations at the stated meeting.
Please support our brother Jeremy Changco as he will receive his third degree on June 14th. As you know, this is a special night for Jeremy and your attendance will be appreciated and noticed.
Our Car Show committee, led by Jeff Lindstrom, is really planning a great event for us on August 18th. This will be a great community event for are lodge! Everyone is welcome, and we encourage you to invite your friends and family. There will be a great Country Band performing, BBQ, and many fancy cars to see.
Susan & I hope your summer starts of great!

From the West

Brethren!

"The Forget-Me-Not"

Masonic Philosophy teaches us to be responsible for other men, more particularly Masons. This responsibility is based on reality rather than on imagination. One of our objectives is to suggest a course of personal conduct. We cannot recall the past; neither can we predict the future. The present is within our grasp and it is our responsibility. There is only one unified Masonry.
This unity demands the responsibility and communication of all true Masons. Our responsibility as Masons is to the Three Degrees of Masonry, which is our identity among one another, and our communication is primarily to the Fatherhood of the Supreme Architect of the Universe, and to the Brotherhood of Man, more particularly among whom no contention should ever exist.
During the 1930's, Adolf Hitler and the Third Reich came into power in Germany, trying to extinguish the Light of Freemasonry, in addition to the atrocities that were inflicted upon the Jewish Race. Masonic property was confiscated. Masons were prey to abject despair. The Third Reich advocated that Masonry and the Jewish Faith were pledged to overthrow the stability of the German Government. Masonry was forced to go underground. In order to identify Masons, Grand Lodges adopted a little blue pin to replace the Square and Compass, "The Forget-Me-Not." In the cities and concentration camps - The "Forget-Me-Not" distinguished the lapels of those who refused to allow the Light of Freemasonry to be extinguished.
At the conclusion of the War, the United Grand Lodges of Germany adopted "The Forget-Me-Not" as the official emblem commemorating those who survived the bitter years of Semi-darkness, bringing the light of Masonry once again into the Temples.
Thus did a simple flower "The Forget-Me-Not" blossom through the midst of the fire onto a meaningful emblem of the Fraternity and become perhaps the most widely worn pin among Freemasons in Germany, and admired among Freemasons throughout the world. Copied.

Fraternally,
Marc S. Canterbury,
Senior Warden

From the South

Brethren:
June’s Stated Meeting dinner menu is as follows:

Salad
Zucchini
Chicken Ravioli
Garlic bread
Dessert (and a sugar free alternative.)

Of course, there will be a variety of hors d’oeuvres waiting for you on the counter at 6:00 p.m. Please make reservations and enjoy!
During the summer months, Lodge dinner menus will be on the lighter side. There will be more of an emphasis on soups, salads, fruits and vegetables. For you traditionalists, not to worry! I am planning a gourmet hamburger dinner soon.
It was great to see the Burbank Police and Fire Organizations join the Masons at the Masonic Center last month for an evening of fellowship and recognition. Rita and I were honored to have taken part in that important event.
Speaking of honored, we appreciate all the positive comments and support the Brethren and their families have given us thus far. The work is challenging. The rewards are vast. Serving the Masonic families is gratifying. Meeting new people and reestablishing old ties, “priceless.”

“To do that which is right to do, not because it will insure you success, or bring with it a reward, or gain the applause of men, or be the ‘best policy’, more prudent or more advisable; but because it is right, and there for ought to be done.”
            Albert Pike, Morals and Dogma.

Fraternally,
Jeffrey W. Yates,
Junior Warden

From the Secretary's Desk

Brethren:
Effective May 31, 2007, I am retiring from the funeral business. For the past seven years I have been with the Services Corporation International (S.C.I.), the Dignity funeral services in the Los Angeles and Ventura Counties. This employment has been very satisfying knowing I have assisted families through a tough time in their lives.
It is my plan to continue to serve Burbank Lodge as your Secretary.
I am embarking on a new challenge by serving the Masonic Family as the Executive Secretary of the Los Angeles Masonic Service Bureau. The training program commences on June 1st and I will begin my duties on July 1, 2007.

The Masonic Service Bureau

The Masonic Service Bureau's goals are:
To relieve the distress of Masons who are members of Lodges in other areas of California or Lodges of other state jurisdictions along with their widows and orphans while residing in this area.
To arrange and conduct funerals for Masons in this jurisdiction and other jurisdictions
            To visit sick sojourning Masons
And to operate a clearing house for applicants for the Degrees of Masonry in Lodges in this Service Bureau area.
The Masonic Service Bureau conducts other Masonic activities the Grand Lodge may direct and could be the focal point for aid and assistance in case of a catastrophe or national disaster.
There are presently 52 Lodges in the Los Angeles Masonic Service Bureau representing some 25,000 Master Masons in an area covering 408 square miles of the city plus other parts of the county. The number of sojourning Masons we represent is an undeterminable figure; however, it has been estimated at various times, to be well over 50,000 Master Masons.
      Yours in Service!

Fraternally,
Norm Furman, Secretary

A Message From the Master's Lady

Hello Ladies,
This month we are in for a real treat with an evening of wine and cheese tasting! Gayle DeCaro is organizing a delicious and informative presentation where we will learn how to pair wines with the right cheeses. She just came back from a wine a cheese seminar, and she has some new ideas to share with us! There will be a cost of $5.00 per person for this event.
I also hope to see you at the Ladies Tea on June 3rd. This will be a wonderful afternoon to invite your friends and enjoy the men serving us! The cost is $10.00 per lady.
If anyone has a suggestion of a ladies event they would like to see, please let me know! I am always open to suggestions
       Love,
       Susan Brennan, Worshipful Master’s Lady

OPERATION PHONE HOME

Operation Phone Home is a campaign designed with the goal of providing prepaid international phone calling cards to as many military men and women serving overseas as can be reached. It will be an ongoing effort as long as American Military Personnel serve overseas, particularly in Iraq, Afghanistan, and the Balkans.
The Masonic Service Association, on behalf of the Masonic fraternity, has entered into an agreement with the USO to participate in this program. MSA has met all of the requirements necessary to have a web site presence and a link to the USO web page and to have a Masonic Logo on the phone card. The card will include the logo of the USO, the participating phone company (AT&T), and the American Flag. On the left side of the card will appear the Square and Compasses and the words Compliments of America's Freemasons.
(Image below)
Anyone wishing to participate in this program may send a donation marked Operation Phone Home to:
                              The Masonic Service Association
                              8120 Fenton Street
                              Silver Spring, MD 20910-4785.
All of the monies received will go to this program and an accounting will be made by MSA at the end of each calendar year.
Or go to http://freemasonry.org and follow the links.

Thank you very much for our help!
