Trestleboard Messages for January 2008

From the East

Brethren & Ladies,
The Masonic year is coming to an end! Susan and I thank all of you who shared this year with us here at Burbank Lodge. As Master, I am pleased to say that we definitely had a very positive, active, and most of all fun year!
We have had new events this year that I am sure will continue on for years to come. We have revitalized some old events that were a success in the past, and have kept up with many great traditions of Burbank Lodge. This success was made possible by the support and planning of your officers and the attendance by all of you. I thank our Junior Warden Jeff Yates and his wife Rita who brought to us a certain level of excellence and elegance that we have all enjoyed. Their hard work and creativity has definitely made my job a lot easier and allowed our year to shine.
Our January Stated Meeting will be another great night for everyone to attend. We will have another great meal prepared by Jeff & Rita, followed by a ladies event when the Men retire to their meeting.
January 10th will be a Second Degree for Brother Billy Campbell. Billy is a very enthusiastic candidate and we all look forward to seeing him progress through his degrees. I encourage the Brethren to show their support to Billy and join us at his degree.
I would like to congratulate all of the Officers of Burbank Lodge who will be installed for the ensuing Masonic year. I would especially like to congratulate Brother Marc Canterbury, Master-Elect. I look forward to his year as Master and know that he will lead well and continue the fun at Burbank Lodge.
Being Master has definitely been a challenge, time consuming, and rewarding. The challenge of directing the day to day business of the Lodge and creating events that will be attended. Time consuming explains itself, and rewarding when I have accomplished my goals and led this Lodge through an excellent year. In order to have achieved my goals I must thank my biggest supporter, my lovely wife Susan. Susan has assisted me in planning, creating, and encouraging me for the last three years. I would also thank all of the Officers who have supported me this year and to all of the active members who have made this year special for me. I will always remember this year at Burbank Lodge!

Fraternally,
John T. Brennan,
Worshipful Master

From the West

Brethren!
I hope everyone had a very Merry and Healthy Christmas and that your New Year is very prosperous.
In last month's article I explained that putting a budget together was the most difficult part of planning my year as Master. As many of you are aware, I proposed my budget at December's Stated Meeting, which included a fundraiser to help offset the budget. The budget was withdrawn, so that the fundraiser could be proposed to the Building Association. After much discussion, the fundraiser was approved, however, with restrictions. I would like to thank Worshipful Chris Bames, Worshipful Bill Cunningham, Brother Jeff Yates, and Worshipful Jason Cunningham for helping me to make some very difficult decisions.
Invitations have been sent but I would like to take this opportunity to invite each and every one of you to the 99th Annual Installation of Officers for 2008 on Saturday, January 19th at 2:00 p.m. Refreshments and dessert will follow. Some of the upcoming events include the Superbowl Party, the Sweetheart's Dinner, a mystery trip, and a Day at the Races. There will be many more events throughout the year, which will be shared as the year progresses.
I am looking forward to serving as Master of Burbank 406 for 2008.

Fraternally,
Marc S. Canterbury,
Senior Warden

Brethren:
      Happy New Year!
Dinner for the Stated Meeting on January 3rd will be a Chinese New Year theme. Rita and I will be serving a complete Chinese dinner. Chopsticks are optional. Admission is ten yen. Social time is at 6:00 PM. Dinner will be served around 6:30 PM.
I congratulate Worshipful John Brennan and first Lady Susan on their stellar year in the East. John's bold style, direct management skills and single minded vision are admirable and will serve him well in his life journeys. Good luck Worshipful and thank you.
My year as Junior Warden was a challenge to say the least, but a worthy challenge and a great joy! Thank you, to all that helped in the kitchen last year. Andy DeCaro, the Piersons, Jeff Lindstrom, Herb Rohwer and Bethel 97, just to name a few!
There is one special person that I owe the success of my entire year to: my wife Rita. I consider myself a capable man, but without Rita's focus, sense of style and impeccable work ethic, my year as Junior Warden would have been overwhelming. Rita is invaluable to me and an asset to our Lodge. Thank you my love.
I anticipate a great Masonic year for Burbank and Magnolia Park Lodges. I also look forward to working with Worshipful elect Marc Canterbury and assisting him in all of his endeavors, so far as I can do so.
It has been my honor to serve Burbank Lodge as your Junior Warden. I sincerely hope you enjoyed Worshipful Brennan's great events and dinners. Worshipful DeCaro, I turn the Kitchen over to you. Good luck! (The keys to the cage are under the mat.)

Fraternally,
Jeffrey W. Yates,
Junior Warden

A Message From the Master's Lady

Hello Ladies,
This past year has flown by! John and I have really enjoyed planning activities, getting to know all of you better, and being a part of Burbank Lodge's rich traditions. I sure hope that you have all enjoyed one or two of the ladies events that have been held!
I tried to do a little something for everyone. Between the Lodge events and Job's Daughters, Brianna is truly being raised at the Burbank Masonic Center! She feels so comfortable around everyone and loves seeing all of your smiling faces. As parents we feel so good knowing that this is a safe and nurturing environment to raise a family. To John and I, this is truly what the Masonic family is all about.
Congratulations to Marc and Laurie Canterbury on their upcoming Installation and year! We are all in for a treat. I know that they have some great ideas planned, and of course Laurie is going to continue with some wonderful ladies events!
At our January stated meeting we will have a surprise ladies event. So please plan on joining us for dinner and staying afterwards.
Thank you for all of your confidence and support this year!
      Happy New Year!

      Love,
       Susan Brennan, Worshipful Master’s Lady
